Here’s an article I wrote on backup setter Emily Oerther, a rising sophomore who brings a hitting background to the position. She led the state of Florida with 538 kills as a senior in high school and played in three matches as a freshman for the Nittany Lions. Although Gabby Blossom is clearly the starter for the next two seasons, Oerther is an exciting player to keep an eye on.

The comment about Weiskircher/Dittering 6-2 was quite interesting. I always assumed that he employed the 6-2 that year because we lacked an effective OPP to start the season, and their skill levels were pretty close. I would presume that if Coach felt that having Emily on the floor because of her hitting, defense or other skills, would enhance the prospects for winning, Coach would just take some aspirin and modify the system and rotation accordingly.
