how can they clobber someone in 3 sets and yet get demolished in one? very frustrating.

In sets 3 and 4, however, they looked like a completely different team. Lots of smiles, everyone taking big swings, really good pace and positioning.
I loved seeing that Heidi Thelen. Some bad passing aside, she looked fantastic; and it game the team some options. Hopefully this won't be just a flash of brilliance from her. If Courtney is still banged up, we'll need all attacking hands on deck.
I'd chalk it up to a good performance, but PSU absolutely cannot have another set like that second one. They'll be hard pressed to start the match off as mediocrely as they did, too. Right now, this team is hard to read. How far State advances might depend on getting good match ups, honestly.

I noticed one characteristic of this year's team is that they are good as long as they keep it even to about the 15 all mark. Then they begin pulling away (probably due to the depth of the PSU bench) and win it easily down the stretch. However, when they're trailing early, it's almost as if each player is trying to do too much, they make more errors, and lose by a bigger margin. I'm not upset they lost set 2, they needed the wake up call. Also, they'll need to know that they cannot lose focus against a very good HI team, which they'll face in Des Moines.

Laura Broerman has been providing excellent commentary, succinct and intelligent. I think she is better than most of the pros. I meant to add this to my last post, but forgot. I second this statement. What sticks out to me isn't her sharpness, but her willingness to be critical of her own teammates. Of course, she gives them props when earned but she doesn't sugar coat anything--good play or bad play. I absolutely love her blunt-style of commentating. It's a breath of fresh air from other commentators.

Had 100% side outs in the third set. Allowed 5 and 4 point service runs in the second set. Still don't feel good about this team's chances due to inability to maintain concentration throughout a match.
Megan had no elevation after reinjuring her ankle. PSU played essentially with one fewer hitter when she was in the front row. Gutsy job on defense from her though.

i respectfully disagree. i think she's bad. She is a player, so her comments will be from PSU point of view. PSU fans appreciate her comments Not only that, but she wasn't even trained to do this and is not majoring in any kind of broadcast journalism (or any communication study at all). The job she's doing is pretty remarkable from my view.

There has been something wrong for most of the 2nd half of the regular season (they lost 2 of their last 5 and got swept twice), but at least they show some fight when dealing with adversity. My expectations were not high this year, but I'd like to see them playing better in the tournament. Some players in important positions need improvement, but I still have hope that they can go far.

Compare to those commentators who clears lacks volleyball knowledge, Laura obviously very knowledgeable and points out the good and bad of each play quite well.

It really is meaningless wether PSU is playing well or not anymore. It's win or lose time. We can discuss the strengths and weaknesses all we want during the season, but now we just need "WINS" no matter how we get them

And it represents Penn State well because her level of analysis is so high -- it's a good reflection on the program.

When you side out at 100% against a quality opponent I would say you are playing well and have a great team. Well over .300 for the match.

They had the longest winning streak in the country -- 25 straight matches -- until tonight.

PSU played essentially with one fewer hitter when she was in the front row. Gutsy job on defense from her though. She moved pretty well had elevation on two shutdown blocks and had some really smart shots for kills. I saw no difference in her play at all.
