The Hodson serving run killed us. The Cardinal had like 6-7 unanswered points. We cannot catch up without a solid server. I miss Hancock's service runs. There is noticeable improvement. We just need to put the right parts together. Lots of talent, but need on-court leadership from more players.

If you see a practice you will see that they begin with a long period serving and then repeat at the end usually. It is a mental thing to serve tough and keep it in play/

How can PSU expect to be an elite program when their deficiencies in serving and receiving has not been addressed for last two three years??? It's actually only 1 year and 4 games.

Actually, the one year and four games thing is what I find most disconcerting. Is the nucleus of this team not the "greatest recruiting class ever"? I realize Coach Rose is essentially off-limits on this site, but at what point do he and his ever-changing staff bear some of the responsibility? At this point the team seems ready to match the futility of the men's last season.
Piscataway is not an easy drive from where I live, so I think I'll skip the Rutgers match. Good news is that the wrestling team opens at Army this year.

No fun here either. What fans there were bolted at the end. Colorado is doing well....
Well they were until I came back from dinner.

Last year the team started falling apart midway and towards the later part of the season, so I was in complete agreement with and criticized the play of the team myself plenty of times. However, it's still too early in the season to predict how things will end up. I'm going to wait till about a month into the B1G season before I write them off. I would like to note that before the season started I was a bit concerned with the fact that coach didn't take any setters to his preseason press conference.

Stanford thought they had the greatest recruiting class of all time in 2012, but they ended up getting beat a couple times in the tourneys by PSU. Someone on Volleytalk mentioned that coach may have started handing off the coaching reigns to Salima. I admit, I had the same thought prior to today, but that thought was not validated by anything I saw on the court today.

I think the Sandusky scandal continues to reverberate where recruiting is concerned.

Tori Gorrell played very well this weekend! Sadly, her stats online are incorrect for the Stanford match. The team looked good against Stanford. Not at all like the desperation of the Colorado match. Still need to close out sets. Kendall White owns the back court. You can see her out there taking Ali or the DS what balls she's going to get. Love the take-charge attitude. Better serving and passing (avoid those opponent's service runs) will get us competitive when the B1G season begins. Nice turnaround. But let's get the WINs!

PSU does not have terminators in OH, look at the stats for the weekend between Lee and Frantti, they combined to hit 48K, 32E, 157ATT for .10. Their total att is 53% of the team totals for the weekend and for a +16 in 8 sets. Teams are gunning for them as the match moved along, so therefore many errors and blocked. Russ may have to try something new as it is not working now.

I could be wrong, but I feel fairly confident in saying that setting plays a big part in how efficient the hitters are. That is to say, a fast set and to the correct side will give the hitters more one-on-one opportunities and therefore a better chance to get a kill vs getting blocked (or hitting out because of a fear of getting blocked).

I think the Sandusky scandal continues to reverberate where recruiting is concerned. It doesn't seem to have any effect on the wrestling team though.
