Appreciate the context Millennium. Sounds as if they've raised their level of play late in the season.

Appreciate the context Millennium. Sounds as if they've raised their level of play late in the season. Yes, but FSU is one of the top 4 teams in the country. They will be tough. Luckily for us, FSU lost one of their best players, for the remainder of this year, to injury in their last match. Of course, I'm hoping all the best for her and for a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately, PSU's season ended today with a loss to FSU 1-0. It was a close and competitive match. I'm happy with how our team played. FSU has a very good roster.
We played well, but the home crowd for FSU was tremendous. The stadium was sold out and rowdy. I was hoping they'd all be doing their black Friday Christmas shopping, but no luck. I think that if we had played them at Jeffrey Field we might have won it.
I must admit I was torn during the match. I picked FSU to win in my bracket challenge projection, and I'm in 2nd place right now.
Ultimately, the soccer team was suffering from a lack of offensive production all season long, much like our beloved volleyball team.

I've enjoyed your write-ups and the insights they contained.

Millennium: Why is the interest in women's soccer here at Penn state so modest?
Yes, football draws well and women's vb over the last 20 years has grown in attendance so why not women's soccer? I for one do not think that the effort to inform the public about our women's soccer team is very modest and from the things in CDT often nothing is written nor commented on. Admittedly the competition in the Big Ten for Women seldom show Big Ten with rankings in the top 25 other than PSU. I have argued that there is much to admire about the game of soccer given that the physical demands at enormous and the recognition that each time a player touches the ball she is put into a decision making situation that must be resolved without coaching assistance and such conditions maybe faced multiple times during the first 90 minutes, Conversely the volleyball player receiving serve knows well in advance what she is expected to do with every serve and where it is to go. Setters and hitters do have some decisions to make but they have gotten very detailed information that allows them to reduce the number of alternatives: the hitter has tip, kill(where) coaching has given good insights into the where for the hitter and maybe another one or two options but very limited Soccer has no timeouts, just keep running So much to admire

Good question. PSU women's soccer has one of the best program's in the country (top 10 in my opinion). Perhaps the strongest case to build a good fan base is winning another national championship. I mean, that's why coach Rose has a full house almost every home game.
The good thing is that I know our women's soccer coach, Erica Dambach, regularly recruits top ranked classes. For 2019, PSU has the #3 recruiting class coming in.
Also, for 2020 here's what one well respected poster wrote on the BigSoccer forum:

Unlike the men, most of the top women players play in college. There really is no other place to develop their game. So young international players come to the US to play. PSU is no exception attracting outstanding young women from all over the world. We also have a really nice facility (though no locker rooms?) I really enjoyed seeing the ladies play in person early this season. Will look for opportunities to see them again.
