Micha Hancock was one of two setters named to the 14-player U.S. roster for the 2019 Pan American Cup, which takes place July 6-14 in Peru.

Thank you Ethan, Micha is one of my all time favorites. Good to see her get the Recognition she deserves. Go USA.

I was hoping Hancock will be chosen for the VNL finals or PanAm Games instead of the PanAm Cup. Seems like a downgrade to me.

The battle for setter spots on the senior National team is apparently quite close. To my eyes, Carlini is playing at a higher level now than this time last year, and she led her club team to a prestigious championship. Carlini looks more fit, and her defense (both blocking and digging) is much improved.
The other question is Carli Lloyd. Some observers now believe she is behind both Carlini and Micha, and have criticized her recent performances in the VNL. I always thought Lloyd was the best blocker among the current setters, but both Micha and Carlini have visibly improved in that area.
I think Poulter might be regarded as too young to be selected to the A team even as the second setter.
Current problem is that there is no clear choice.

Well since Carli Lloyd "retired" along with Lauren Gibbermeyer, there is less of a battle now. However, there is speculation that Karch told them they are not needed any longer.

This is the first I've heard of Lloyd being "retired". Both of their names have been removed from the wide roster as well as Kelly Sheffield mentioning in an interview that two players retired from the national team after the final week of preliminaries for VNL. www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/usa-teams/indoor-volleyball/women/athletes-and-rosters

I notice Kendall White's name is on the roster. I wonder if Karch is considering her for the L position in Tokyo. As for Lloyd retiring, it looks like Micha and Cheesehead Jesus are most likely to go to Tokyo, unless Poulter sneaks in. Poulter doesn't look ready at this point.

I doubt White will make it to Tokyo. She hasn't made any rosters this Summer, but she got a lot of good practice time in for the upcoming season at PSU. Poulter is not ready, IMO. Barring injury, I will be very surprised if it's not Carlini and Hancock in Tokyo 2020.

So this information is fascinating. During the rebroadcast of the Poland VNL match on Olympic Channel, Sunderland mentioned that Lloyd is no longer "in the gym" but they did not say that she had retired. The guys were of the opinion that Carlini is the No. 1 setter. In addition to Poulter, I note that Selinger-Swenson is doing some National Team work.

US swept Columbia, which is not surprising. Micha has some experienced players to work with. Karsta Lowe led the attack and Rachel Adams and Hannah Tapp scored well too. I think Adams at least might still make the Olympic roster.

Getting match stats for Pan Am Cup has been challenging. Finally found them for the Mexico match from 7/8. US swept easily. Micha credited with 4 aces, 2 blocks and 2 kills on 3 attempts. Team hit .425 while Mexico managed just .074.
Will go searching for the Puerto Rico stats. PR the only real competition in the US pool.
