Stanford announced today that it’s cutting its men’s volleyball program and 10 other varsity sports following the 2020-21 academic year due to budget concerns. The move will bring the Cardinal from 36 varsity teams to 25. The university’s women’s volleyball program is unaffected. news.stanford.edu/2020/07/08/athletics-faq/

Yeah, those sports are being permanently cancelled. They also announced wealthy donors will not be allowed to foot the bill for any of the sports.
Also the Ivy League announced today all fall sports are being cancelled. They might consider playing football in the spring depending on how the pandemic goes.

ACC has also gone conference only for all fall sports. PAC-12 will announce same thing next week.
RPI for volleyball will have to be thrown out the window for NCAA tournament seeding. I suspect program reputation will play a bigger role meaning good news for B1G. Assuming there is a WVB season which I now doubt will happen.

That's dedication Ethan - you posted this at 3am US time!! It's 8am here in England. Obviously I'm hugely disappointed that WVB will most likely not take place in the fall, although even if it had, it would probably have been without fans. The prospect of tournament being shifted to the spring is a positive for me as it would hopefully mean spectators would be allowed in. The optimist in me is already starting to plan for a spring trip to Rec Hall!

I made some changes to my most recent article about the Big Ten’s decision regarding fall sports in order to more accurately portray the questions many will be asking if the conference is unable to conduct sports as anticipated this fall. I apologize that the previous version was unclear on certain topics pertaining to the Big Ten’s statement and the potential ramifications of a canceled season that cannot be made up in the spring. It was late when I was writing the article and I was tired and failed to properly lay things out in a way that made more sense.

Jonni Parker is one of the most genuine and caring student-athletes I’ve ever had the pleasure of covering at Penn State. She’s always so generous with her time and an excellent example for the next generation. She’s the epitome of class.
