Good match but PSU serve receive needs work! As Coach would say, 'They were serving recreationally." Some of those serves in the 4th were just too easy.
I'm disappointed that they lost, but I'm pretty happy with where they're at. I didn't think coming into this match that PSU could play as well as they did tonight.
Serve receive needs improving. Defense needs improving. I'd like to see AK hitting beter. At 6'4" she should be able to put the ball down better. But it's early. This team will be a lot better in two months. Hopefully we don't lose many players to Covid during that time.

I was happy with what I saw. The key this season will be good passing. Penn State has a number of very good hitters. Penn State does not have a monster terminator who can consistently put an out-of-system ball to the floor.

I think that PSU ran out of gas in the 4th. Tough to keep your attitude up after 3 such tight sets. I'm not certain whether they ran of gas emotionally or physically or both. I tend to think it was emotionally as they went 5 against ILL and were able to bring it home. <sarcasm starts> Of course, I'm speaking from my many years of volleyball experience.<sarcasm ends> |

I don't think that Penn State ran out of gas. They had fought back into the set, but Minny just hit a hot streak that ended it.
Our lack of blocking remains a concern. We only had seven blocks and Kaitlyn accounted for 4.5 of that total. Zero blocks for Serena! Anastasiya did get a couple assists. It would be great if, at her height, she could contribute more in that area.
All-in-all it was a good effort. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
