If the reality is that we are now sponsoring professional teams, then it makes sense to pay the best players only and focus on revenue generating sports. This very predictable consequence is what pro sports are about. Every player is a free agent and will sell their services to whomever will pay best. Can't wait for the starting QB to hold out for a better deal.

Beside football, what Penn State sport generates enough income to be self-sustaining in the world of professional student athletes? Would our beloved volleyball or wrestling be at risk when the QB demands hit the stratosphere? I honestly have no idea, but have concerns.

The article that Ethan posted talked about putting school caps on revenue sharing, so I doubt that payouts would go through the stratosphere. You piqued my interest; I wonder whether sports like wrestling and men's basketball are really in the red? The landscape is certainly changing, which is always reason for concern, and it will have its costs on certain sports. I just hope the administration can keep up or stay ahead of the curve.

IIRC, the only other PSU programs (besides football) that generates income are Men's Basketball and Men's Ice Hockey. IMO, I think Baseball will eventually join that list, given how Mike Gambino has been building the program. Now... would these programs generate enough income to also pay the players? Hmm... Maybe/maybe not? As for Wrestling, there's rumors that AD Kraft wants to eventually move all wrestling matches to the BJC, hoping that with more ticket sales, Wrestling will start to generate income as well. It's being said that the Wrestling program has 7,000 on the waiting list for Season Tickets.
