It's being said that Minnesota MB Carter Booth is in the Portal! Her dad is Penn State Basketball alum Calvin Booth and her younger brother Carey is a Penn State Basketball Commit (c/o 2023). She's 6-7, was B1G 1st Team, BIG All-Freshmen Team, AVCA North Region FOY, and ranked 10th nationally in blocks per set this season. If it's true that she's in the Portal, hopefully with her PSU connections she gives Penn State a consideration! (Though perhaps she wants to forge her own distinct path and for that reason wouldn't consider PSU.) There's a D2 coach who confirmed (via a Facebook post) that Booth is in the Portal. I have a friend who knows Calvin from back in the day, so I jokingly asked him to put in a good word for us.  |

Wow -- the statement they put out comes off as very cold. I'm not sure I would want to work for an AD who can't acknowledge the good things a long time coach did for you, even if you felt the time was right not to renew their contract. One time years ago during an NCAA tournament, PSU played Michigan in an early round, and I sat close to the net. PSU's men's team was there sitting right next to me, and they started heckling the Michigan women during warmups. Rosen came right over and put himself between our guys and his players. One of the guys said something a bit over the line, and Rosen laid into him in an entirely appropriate way. I have always respected him since then -- he really stood up for his team in a way I hope all coaches would, but I saw him do it firsthand. It wasn't the most shining moment for a PSU men's player who I otherwise liked, too. I think of the Rosens. I think of Rose. I think of AU's Goldberg, who has stage 4 metastatic stomach cancer. I always thought they looked like they could be brothers. And 2 of them, Rose and Goldberg, held the same kind of approach to coaching during the game. Goldbergs hanging on at AU, but it does seem that a generational torch is being passed. |

Ironically... in a recent interview, JC went off about how he wants to develop players as opposed to using the Portal. That said, great pick up for Nebraska. I wonder who from their current roster this displaces though. |
