About Troy (from TroyTrojans.com)
Troy volleyball looks to make it consecutive winning weekends as they travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the Tiger Challenge, where they will play three power five opponents in LSU, Penn State, and Iowa State, beginning on Friday, Sept.2 at 10 a.m.
"This is an exciting weekend for our team," head coach Josh Lauer said. "An opportunity to play some great competition in a big-time environment is exactly the type of experience our team wants to be a part of. We can't grow and mature as a program unless we challenge ourselves against some of the top teams in the country, so that is what this weekend is all about. Accepting the challenge in front of us, being aggressive, and believing in ourselves no matter who we compete against."
Troy kicks off the weekend against host LSU, who they will be facing for the second consecutive year and the second time in program history after facing off last season in which the Trojans earned the victory in a five-set thriller for their first program win over the Tigers and the third power five team the Trojans had beat in 2021.
The action continues Friday at 5 p.m. with Troy playing #21 Penn State in their first-ever meeting in program history. This will be the first time since November 21, 2020, against Texas State that Troy has faced off against a ranked opponent. Troy will be looking for their first win as they are 0-4 all-time.
The weekend is wrapped up on Saturday, September 3, at 11 a.m. with a matchup against Iowa State. The first such meeting since 1996, which saw the Cyclones win in three sets.
OH Tori Hester looks to build off a career weekend in which she led the Trojan offense with 55 kills, including a career-high 26 kills coming in the Trojan's come-from-behind five-set thriller victory over Santa Clara, giving the Trojans their first win over West Coast Conference team in program history. Her 55 kills were the most by a Sun Belt player last weekend, and she averaged 4.58 kills per set, which ranks third after the first weekend. In the match against Chattanooga, Hester recorded the 10th double-double of her career with 23 kills and 12 digs.
The Trojan offense will also look to run smoothly with the help of setter Amara Anderson once again after Anderson totaled 129 assists over the opening weekend matches and averaged 10.75 assists per set, each the most by any Sun Belt player. In addition, Anderson led all players in assists during the tournament and only committed one error. With back-to-back matches of over 50 assists, Anderson now has 24 matches in her career, recording at least 50 assists.
