Tonight's win bumps Penn State's RPI from 20 to 19, while bumping down Minnesota's from 11 to 12

I wouldn't want to have to choose between setter Elisaia, MB Holland, and OH Kashauna Williams. Each has won B1G weekly awards.
Freshman of year for PSU: Markley. Hands down. Grimes get mention for stepping in from day 1 with killer serving and D.

I don't think this will happen, for a variety of reasons, but I think Katie Schumacher-Cawley should be in the conversation -- as in, a legitimate candidate -- for National Coach of the Year. Just think back to the day she was hired, and the very, very low opinion many had of the hire (and the fact that Holland, Starck and Bilinovic/Kuerschen were the only returning starters). Lots of people predicted PSU wouldn't even win 15 matches, and wouldn't get into the Tournament. Then look at what she has accomplished -- over 20 wins, very possible PSU hosts the first weekend. I think this is a "Wow" performance. But I doubt voters will agree.

i've been away for a couple years and have lost touch with the team. anyone tell me two things? who is the current best player, and who is the best upcoming freshman? Welcome back idseer2 ! Best players? I'd rephrase it a bit, because so many players have contributed in a big way. But most impactful? I think Leisa Elisaia. It's taken good passing from Maddie, Gillian, Cassie and Anjelina to get the ball to her, and it's taken killer swings from Kash, Alexa, Allie, Katie and Zoe to put the ball down for kills, but it's the setting from Leisa -- her choice of who to set, and when, and her placement of the ball, that has made the whole thing click. So, I go with her.

Well, PSU has their 11th conf win. Hooray!!! Now it remains to be seen how the last 3 matches go. PSU will probably lose to WISC pm Saturday nite, as WISC may be the best team in the B1G this year. That leaves two matches; PSU vs PUR at home and PSU vs NW away. PSU can definitely win the last two matches, but they won't be gimmes. They will need to play well. PSU has played pretty well in their last 6 matches, going 5-1, with their lone loss in 5 agains OSU.
NW has their starting setter Alexa Rousseau back in the lineup which will mean that PSU needs to play well against them. It's too bad that NW has had such a problem with injuries this year as they had the possibility of having one of their best years in the B1G in quite some time. This year has been torpedoed by injuries leaving them with a 6-11 conf record at this point in time. They have the possibility of winning out; not easy but possible as they're finishing out with MICH ST, PSU and ILL.
As nyline said earlier, KSC has done a marvelous job with this team; I think seeyajohn said that if this team wins 12 mathes in the B1G, that is quite a kudo for the coaching staff. Can't guarantee 12 wins, but sure looks like that will happen. Just need to beat either PUR or NW.

Finish strong the last 3 games and Katie should at least get some votes. I don't think anyone predicted this record when Russ retired and the core of the team hit the transfer portal. There were a lot of new cogs in the machine and this team's growth from game 1 to now has been wonderful to see. Some of the early Big Ten losses could have set the team back, but they fought through it. Last night was a confident team having fun in front of a White Out crowd and the hitters were firing bullets into the court. The additions of a now experienced Markley and Clark to the starting lineup has put a charge into the offense. I think Cash and Weatherington have rubbed off on Markley as I don't think I ever saw her hit balls harder than she did last night. Injuries suck, but while watching Clark play now I have to shake my head at the thought that if Trammell didn't get hurt Clark would have finished her career sitting on the bench. This team may not win a National Championship, but it has been fun to watch the transformation and there should be a lot of proud ladies and coaches on that team. A sidebar to finish, but I am excited to see Ava Falduto join the team. Her accolades are numerous, but for me there is something about her pictures and videos that show a girl that knows how to have fun while playing at a very high level. She and Grimes together are going to give us some great years in the backcourt.

Knew they could win!!!!! What tension at the end!!! Huge credit to KSC, her team is now playing with great positivity, self belief and team spirit. Nearly 4am here in England but so glad I stayed up for it. Tremendous So glad that this was one of the matches that you could watch. It would have lost a lot in translation!!! My body clock's all over the place. Went to bed at 4am but it took an hour for the excitement to subside enough for me to get to sleep. I've just got up today at 2pm! First thing I'm going to do is watch a re-run of the last few points. Markley's two blocks and Weatherington's back court kill that was challenged. I'm so envious of everyone who will be in Rec Hall tonight for the Wisconsin game, although do our Lions have anything left after last night's heroics?

Based on what I've seen, and the quote during the Purdue match from Coach Katie about Markley ("She hits the cr*p out of the ball") I think Markley has had a powerful swing for awhile
