Jonni Parker said afterward at the booster club social that they raised around $7,000 for her foundation Chasing Greatness during tonight’s match.

When you think about it, PSU took OSU to 5 twice and WI to 5 once. Impressive. Tho, as RR says, there are no moral victories. Maybe not moral victories but morale victories-yes. Team proved that they can beat the best.

Not looking for moral victories, but Penn State did play tough -- they did not give up. I am proud of the team. Just finished watching the match on full replay. Agree, the team were sensational and their effort never dropped below 100%. You cannot ask more than that. At the speed they're improving, are they in with a shout of the NCAA championship?

Six matches. A couple of fewer errors here and there. I think this team has more than a passing (no pun intended) resemblance to the 2013 Wisconsin team (irony noted) that went to the NCAA finals in Seattle. Against Penn State.

This heartbreaking loss could have been completely avoided if we had played the whole thing on the visitors side.

I went into this season worried about how things were going to play out. I think in retrospect, part of my worries for this season were related to the transfers. Regardless of why folks left, I think I took some of the transfers pretty hard, which shouldn't have affected how I felt about this group at all, but I think that's why I have been more pessimistic this season.
So after we lost a couple of matches that I felt we might have won in the past (like getting swept at home by Michigan), I took the loss to Nebraska really, really hard. That's when I wrote my post basically assuming we wouldn't win against any team above us in the rankings, while hoping we would win against all of the teams below us. I was especially pessimistic about Purdue, because they seem to always save their best match for us, and they are always so strong defensively.
I think that win against Purdue really turned around my whole attitude on the season. I was really optimistic against Minnesota, and I had hope the team would pull it out against Wisconsin. I was disappointed that they couldn't finish the match last night with a win, but wow did they battle. They had Wisconsin rattled several different times, and there were so many big plays that gave the team momentum. Kash's jump serve is a new weapon, Markley just seems to keep getting better and better, and I'm still blown away by how effective Katie has been since coming in for Taylor.
Kudos to Coach Katie, who seems to really have this team peaking as they get ready for the tournament, and I'm excited to see them make some unexpected noise this year.

Wisconsin scored one more total point than Penn State in the match. That's how close it was. One point in five sets. This shows how much the PSU team has improved during the season. The first match with WISC was a sweep for WISC, (-20, -15, -29). Impressive improvement by the PSU team and an impressive coaching job by the PSU staff.

After watching the first IND match, which was a win but a very sloppy win, and then watching PSU get swept by MI, I was devastated. But it's been quite a journey for the PSU team this season, and it's been fun to see the team gradually improve over the season. I would have never thought that PSU could play WI as touch as they did Saturday. Until pretty recently, I didn't think that PSU had a chance against MINN. I think that PSU volleyball is in good hands. I look at PSU as a true team. There isn't a superstar on the team that everybody can lean on. "Just" a bunch of pretty good players that keep chuggin'. Unlike some of the earlier matches, if some of the PSU hitters are shut down, others come to the fore. When Kash had a number of not so great matches, the middles came thru along with some other OHs. And vice versa. Markley and Clark have been very pleasant surprises this season. Man, PSU came "so" close to beating WISC. I "know" that you can't compare different teams that have played the same team, but it still surprises me that PSU played WISC a bunch better than NEB did (NEB being swept).

Like others who have posted here, I say kudos to the PSU coaches and players for the past weekend and for a successful season. They now have a shot at a 13-7 B1G (but let's not count those chickens yet) season and have much exceeded my expectations. I still think their tournament run will be short. Even if they get to host the first two rounds, they would be underdogs in matches going forward. Some simple probabilities put the Nittany Lions at maybe 60% to make the sweet sixteen and 5 percent to make the final 4. But those odds are better than I would have forecasted midway through the season. However things may go from here on out, the team has performed well and been entertaining to watch. Great job!

Here's what I think....They were underdogs at Purdue, and won. They were underdogs against Minnesota, and won. They were massive underdogs against Wisconsin and came within a whisker of winning. This team has improved so much that they have reached a point where they should believe they can beat anybody. The only team against whom I would class PSU as being underdogs would be Texas.

I agree; at this point any top team other than Texas I would consider a toss-up. Prior to the season I expected Nebraska to be unbeatable. I now would expect PSU to beat Nebraska at Rec Hall. Of course as soon as a team starts getting too confident, surprises will happen.
If Penn State could make it to the regional final I think KSC should be in the NCOY conversation. I don't know at what point during the tournament they vote on NCOY, but I believe a team needs to make a deep run in the tournament for a coach to have a good chance.
