Well, at least that takes the pressure off of trying to go undefeated!

I do think there were some lapses in coaching and switching players out much later than needed. But the pieces are still there and it’s game 1. Still have high hopes for this team. Hopefully we get to see more options for the right side because I feel like Hannah could’ve provided a spark like Markely. Honestly most of them looked to be playing too in their heads majority of the game instead of letting it flow if you ask me.

I think this loss will be good for this team. The pre-season interviews were a little concerning with a bit too much confidence (and I’m sure the blowout first set didn’t help).

They have a lot of work to do (as all teams do at this time of year!) Time to get back to work.

If anything I think it’s the surrounding pieces not performing as well as they could again. Lots to take away from this game hopefully the adjustments are made.

I was excited about this duo coming in .. maybe we shouldn’t have been.

I think they should move Maddy back to libero. Grimes may be a better natural defender, but I think Maddy controlled the floor a lot better and I also feel like Grimes defended her position on the court better last season. A lot of tips were dropping in front of her that she didn’t adjust to as well in that spot.

Middle attacks were pretty non existent or tips and didn’t seem like everyone was synced with Mac quite yet. Could be because of the passing but seeing Mac’s decisions at OSU compared to this game i would’ve expected her to take a few more chances pushing the middle and speeding up the offense.

Too early to tell. I do think they need more time to gel with the rest of the team, but as someone else pointed out, I expected more from last year's players who sat on the bench for the first 3 sets. Of course, that's not on the players.
Wise kept tweaking her court, till she got it right.
