Kind of an implicit diss to the Pitt football program, isn't it? Maybe "Fall is about to get even better!"

So this is what we can piece together so far. We had 9 pre-conference opponents last year, 11 the year before. We have to have more before the Louisville match, right? That's the only question, who we face the opening weekend: 9/3 (Tues) Louisville 9/6 @ Kentucky 9/7 Ball State (@ Kentucky) 9/13 PSU Invitational (Princeton, Duke, St. Johns) 9/14 PSU Invitational (Princeton, Duke, St. Johns) 9/18 (Wed) @ Pitt 9/20 PSU Classic (James Madison, Yale, Team C?) 9/21 PSU Classic (James Madison, Yale, Team C?)
No Villanova. Maybe Temple? Ga Tech? Dayton? UMBC? Howard? Think we might see a Big 12 team...Kansas? WVU?
As a reminder for the B1G schedule:
Home: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington
Away: Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin
Home/Away: Maryland, Michigan State, Purdue

Smart money says we stick to the script and add two away matches. One vs an SEC team that had a good run n the tournament and that helps our RPI, (like we did the last two seasons vs LSU and Florida), and a cupcake match in a big alumni base like we did last year vs Temple in Philly. I’m gonna guessTennessee and Villanova.

If the first weekend is two road matches I'm hoping they are both against cupcakes. I understand the importance of RPI but I don't want to risk losing two matches against teams just outside the top twenty. That first weekend on the road is unpredictable.
It seems with Rose retiring Penn State has no interest in playing Stanford. I don't why because Stanford is very beatable and also considered a fairly good win.

Actually, PSU played Stanford in 2022 in KSC's first season as coach and beat them 3-2. So it's hard to say whose decision it was to not renew their rivalry during the pre-season. I'm with you in that I always looked forward to the Stanford match in the fall. It was usually a good indicator of where the PSU team was at the beginning of the volleyball season.

The last few times we played Stanford it was part of a Big10/Pac12 pod with PSU/Stanford/Oregon/Minnesota, an agreement that required travel to the west coast 2/4 of those years. That kind of travel is tough, but was arguably worth it as a good test. With the dissolving of the Pac12 and Big10 play now requiring west coast travel, I think playing Stanford in the non-conference season is highly unlikely. There is equally good competition closer to home.
