Really nice debut for Jess today. Was a star offensively with a match-high 14 kills. Started out a little rough at first with connection with Miner but when that got sorted out by the middle of the first set almost every ball set to her was hitting the floor.
Passing was a little rough though, it's a little expected since the Mikasa v200w balls float a whole lot more than the Molten balls (the Baden too) but I'm a little surprised with how much she struggled but hopefully that was a first time jitters thing but I think she made up for it by being so lights out and doing some good things like out of system setting and such. I also wonder if the humidity and temp affected her at all, I noticed her sweating like a lot and that must be hard to pass with.
But I think overall a really good game from her. I hope she continues to start and give us a good show.

If only Sophie Fischer had committed to PSU.

USA looking very good in first set against Canada. I can't tell if these group of players is the first string?
Miner plays first half of second set and USA struggles. USA wins a fairly close set 2.
Jess starts set 3. Libero Scott should be a model. USA dominating set 3.
A lot of mix and match of players. I get the feeling winning this tournament is not the highest priority.

This was a match of college kids against college kids and the (much) better college kids won. Canada was not good. They were barely scoring their own points (except in the second) and were spraying too many errors. Guezen looked promising though. Norceca tourneys are usually not priorities at all. Sometimes the USA doesn't bother sending teams to certain tournaments. They care if it's before a Olympic year when ranking points could make a difference (especially with the new volatile FIVB world ranking model) for the qualifying tournament so last year they sent a group of pros to this event. But since the repercussions of a lower ranking won't affect the Olympic draw anymore, my guess is they invested the time in this into developing giving future talent experience hence the rotating lineups and why it's a young squad.
