Yeah, based on how both teams played last night, I'm nervous...someone talk me off the ledge...

I think it all comes down to defending the dink, sometimes called a tip. Ducks used it extensively against the buckeyes. It’ll be interesting to see if PSU is quick enough in the back row to get to it. It’ll be a great test for number two and number three.

Yeah, based on how both teams played last night, I'm nervous...someone talk me off the ledge... I’d love to but…. I know I’m not the biggest optimist on here, but if we don’t come out on fire like we did against Purdue, we better make adjustments quickly. We won’t be able to tolerate giving points away and win. Hope court advantage is huge, and I think we get the W, but this isn’t the opponent to play poorly against, or be one dimensional against and think we can get away with it.

Oregon is a very fast offensive team when in system, PSU is gonna have to come out serving hard and be quick on their feet on defense.

Oregon looked pretty good last night. I wouldn't take them lightly. They have an MB who can touch 11"0". That's insane. She is also quick and athletic. It will be interesting to see how PSU's middles stand up to her.

I hope Katie takes Caroline out early if she is not delivering. I am tired of hearing how hard she hits. She may hit hard but has been hitting negative lately. I think Markley deserves a chance. I am hoping for a Purdue/Louisville performance and not a replay of the Pitt match. Being at home will help. Izzy needs to establish the middles early.

I think there are three things that PSU needs to do well: 1) SR and pass well - that's a duh; that's always the case in a high level VB match. Just ask NEB after the championship match against TX. Then again TX also served WISC off the court in the semi-finals. Tho ironically, WISC won a set off of TX and NEB got swept. 2) Defend well against the fast offense that OR plays 3) Serve well and get OR oos. This will be the key, I think, to being able to defend the OR offense. If PSU doesn't serve well, then OR is just gonna tee off on the ball and bad things will happen. I'm not too worried about how PSU played last night re: tonight's match. PSU has tended to play down to their opponents. PITT, (and 1/2 of the KY match ), are the only times that PSU has looked bad against a good opponent. The rest of the matches that PSU has not looked good in have been lower level opponents. PSU hasn't learned yet how to play hard against a not so good opponent. But, as we all have been wondering; which PSU team will show up? Nobody knows.
Edit: As other people have said, PSU needs to defend the tip as well as the setter dump. OR's setter Cline is VERY good on the dump. Very deceptive. Hopefully Izzy got the bad dumps out of her system last night.

She got off to a fast start and gave me hope, but as soon as teams had film on her and the schedule got tougher, things changed. The B1G is a brutal place to learn on the job, and 4 of our last 5 matches against top quality competition, the results weren’t good. Last night I thought we would see a sub, like the Kentucky, Pitt, and Michigan St. matches, but Katie gave her a long leash. I think she’ has a ton of potential, but is still a year away from being ready for prime time.

I am also persuaded that confidence plays an important factor. But I have no idea what any player's "upside" can be. Some really improve a lot over their college careers, while many simply don't. This explains why so many first-year players start over players who have been with the program for a while (and here I speak not just of our program). As to mid match replacement, I can only assume that Caroline showed more to the staff than any alternatives. I do not doubt that if the staff believed someone else would be more effective that they would start or be subbed in more swiftly than we have thus far seen.

I'm surprised that no one picked OR to win this match. I picked PSU 3-1, but I'm a lot less confident than that. 3-2 is more how I feel.
