Here is a breakout of points scored by rotation, set, and server for all matches prior to the B1G opener vs. Rutgers. It is probably not 100% accurate, but close.

Awesome stat table. So, it seems, rotations 4 is the most troublesome. Whose on the floor and in what positions, typically, for that rotation?

Awesome stat table. So, it seems, rotations 4 is the most troublesome. Whose on the floor and in what positions, typically, for that rotation? Lately Russ has most frequently had Holcomb serving. Front row is Frantti Washington and Detering. White and Lee complete the back row. On serve receive they stack Washington and Detering to the far left, drop Frantti back to receive on the left with White in the middle, Lee on the right and Holcomb behind everyone.

Here are updated rotation stats for all B1G matches through the Indiana match. Rotation 4 seems to have improved with the usual substitution of Holcomb for Thielen, Rotation 3 statistics were heavily impacted by Laura Broerman's runs of 6 and 8 in the Rutgers match.

Aaahhh, much easier to follow the stats from this table now while watching future matches (since you entered the expected server in each rotation) Thanks. Nice work.

Big data is wonderful to study and provides some insights into results. However rotations maybe impacted by the opponents rotation requiring a change in our personnel locations to face better blocking or attacking opportunities. That is coach may want to have our best blocking player facing their best hitter or perhaps positioning our best serve*receive player when their best server is on the line.

Lotsa variables to consider. One of the joys of presenting statistics is the certitude that you've not considered all the permutations and combinations that our gentle readers will identify. I like the stats you're bringing john. Please continue.

John,
Your thoughts about why Ro 6 is the weakest? I would have thought it would be our best because setter is at net, in the prime position to take passes. Not that 60% is bad! I just thought it would be the best.
BTW, tried to find the tape of it and have not been successful...in what I presumed was Ro 6, Lee was in the back corner and I mean corner. as if Moses were parting the Red Sea, she comes from out of a crowd and just mows down the ball with an attack that reminded me of Courtney. It is poetry in motion. Deserves to be watched in slo mo. Happened this weekend and that seems to be all I can say definitely!

Our sideout percentage overall of 70.3% is fantastic. Let's hope we can keep that up against tougher opponents coming up in the next 2 weeks.

Here is a table of points scored on serves by the major PSU servers. Server PW PL % Server PW PL % Broerman 35 19 64.8% Holcomb 33 35 48.5% Detering 69 59 53.9% Pierce 26 29 47.3% Weiskercher 20 18 52.6% Lee 22 27 44.9% White 50 47 51.5% Washington 26 46 36.1% Frantti 19 19 50.0%
Laura's numbers are primarily the result of an 18-4 match against Rutgers.

Matches started, if I understand, can be misleading as there can only be 6 starters +L. Most teams would start their big name hitters, not, for instance, Holcomb. They would then sub the DS for the hitter.
I don't know why Coach has started doing this. I don't believe he had Lacey Fuller in or Dom as starters when they weren't wearing the blue jersey. But i can imagine it sends a HUGE message to all the DSs that they matter.
And they sure do matter this year!
