It's a win. A serious state padding win but a win. Not much to take from it Shucks.

Nice to see some of the other girls (non-starters) getting some playing time: Muller Broerman Powers Sciorra Krause Reed EDIT: treblejig you beat me to it by half a minute, but we're on the same line of thinking.

Penn State didn't seem as fired up as against the Gophers. Laura Broerman did a great job serving and Our middles had a field day since Rutgers doesn't block very well. Nice crowd attending the match. Great to win in football and volleyball the same day.

Nice crowd attending the match. Great to win in football and volleyball the same day. It would have been astonishing if they had been as fired-up as they were for the Gophers.

And a little weird, honestly. This isn't a team you go crazy & celebrate against. It would be somewhat unsportsmanlike, I think. But that's just my view.

Muller came in for Lee toward the end of game. Had some digs and did some serving. Her and Ali both collided when diving for a ball. Looked bad, but both got up. Broerman did a very nice job serving. Love her spirit! Powers replace Ali for a few points when she couldn't handle a serve. Russ was upset and Ali had a seat next to him. Sciorra served once in the first set. It went long. Krause got a chance to serve also. Reed played the final few points of the game. She had a powerful kill and a solo block for a point, which both highlights brought great joy from her teammates. Thelen and White collided also. White felt it the most. It took her a few points to shake it off. Russ was talking to her with a smile, but she didn't react to him. I knew she was hurting. She's tough as nails. 5,300 at Rec Hall. Easy pickings against a not so good Rutgers team.

We've posted a short match write-up (shamelessly cribbing from backrowattack's summary of the non-starters who played). Here's the link: Lions Fell's Knights

Shucks. Didn't mean to sound disrespectful. It was nice to see the high level of execution. Didn't sound disrespectful to me. And agreed, under the circumstances, the execution was pretty good.

It is important to reward hard working players with some floor time when possible. Moreover, a little experience helps confidence if ever coach must call on any of these ladies. These players may not get into another match this season.

Reed played the final few points of the game. She had a powerful kill and a solo block for a point, which both highlights brought great joy from her teammates. I think she may be an ace in the hole. Hope Coach gives her more chances to prove herself. LOVE love love her support of the team from the sidelines. What a great Lion.
