After watching the Indiana match in its entirety (I missed the first two sets earlier), it seems at times that Detering hits the ball harder than Micha (OK, I know this is taboo), when she's going for a kill on 2nd contact. Specifically, I was watching 12th point for PSU in set 2.

I like this announcer-speak too: "The offence is very obvious for Penn State." She was obviously NOT a volleyball fan; she hardly knew any terminology. My favorite was, "Kendall White with 4 digs in the last single play [could she mean "rally?"], she's definitely making some great attempts at keeping the points away from Indiana."

It's time I apologize to Coach Rose for comments I made last year. He has revived this team and made them super competitive with the same left side hitters. He has fixed the offense and the defense. This team has the potential to go anywhere they want. While luck always is a factor with injuries I see a very bright future for us going forward. We Are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This team has the potential to go anywhere they want. While luck always is a factor with injuries I see a very bright future for us going forward. We Are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's just something about this team. It's this intangible thing that I can't quite pinpoint. They're emotional, but not so emotional that it affects the next point or allows them to get down on themselves during a push by the opponent. They're walking the walk and talking the talk, even though they don't have to because the name/logo on the jersey does a lot of talking for them. Even in areas where they look overmatched on paper, you can see/feel that they either don't care or that their resolve makes it not matter. Their opponents have to be seeing this too. It's obvious in everything this team does; even with the players on the bench. Clare Powers didn't play at all this weekend, but there she was during a timeout—first player to her teammates who were on the court, then following & talking to Simone Lee all the way to the service line to encourage her (I'm guessing telling her to stick with it, despite the tough night). Going up against a team wirh this sort of attitude has to be a bit demoralizing even for other, elite B1G teams. I'm not sure what has happened in the past 5 or 6 weeks, but something clicked. Enjoy it, y'all. Hopefully, it lasts through Decemeber.

Russ is definitely behind his team's success. He always finds a way to get the best lineups on the floor (based on talent and chemistry). However, I don't think PSU would be where it is now without the additions of White and Detering (they've been phenomenal).

On top of the girls effort,I personally think besides Russ asserting himself earlier with this team this year, Salima and the addition of Craig and John have been as much of a strong reason for the success. The staff has these girls prepared and they are listening intently.

Does anyone know? I'm asking because the serving has gotten so much better. I'm curious to find out who has brought that level of quality serving out of the players this year.

Having good assistants is crucial to a programs immediate, season and long range success. Schall,Salima,Adam Hughes and Kaleena were some of the best that I've seen in action and viewed this way among peers that I've conversed with. They do a ton of leg work. Breaking down game tape of opponents, game plan, recruiting, individual/group and team practice design, techincal training, academic liason/oversight for the players, travel coordinaters. All of those have subset and more subset responsibilites. There is about 20 other things I'm not mentioning. Above those all they are psychologists, counselors and listeners to the girls. They are very important and we have good ones again imo.

Also, besides that mentioned in above posts, the amazing improvement of the pass/receive, and overall D, has allowed all the rest of the play to evolve. Keeton has teamed up with Kendall and Ali, as well as Simone and Bryanna, when they are in back row, and the subbed in servers, Laura and Lainy, to form some super competitive back row play. And that opens the door to the great play by the setter, pins and middles. Really enjoying this gutsy group! Confidence is really growing.
