I think that 53 points is the fewest points scored by a PSU team since the inception of the 25-point set.
It's been an embarrassing year for the team on BTN television with four consecutive losses (two of them straight set blowouts).
On the other hand, I can't remember a previous time when the top three teams in the country were all in the B1G!

Penn State needs a good setter, otherwise same story next year. You can't go with different setter different set, not good for continuity and not good for moral. In my opinion, other teams are getting better, PSU is getting BAD!

I'm already looking forward to next year. Nebraska graduates 4 starters, how many seniors do the Gophers and Badgers graduate? Maybe the only team we'll have to worry about in 2017 will be Maryland. And yet our players never seem to improve. I have lost faith in Lee, Frantti, or Thelen ever being a .300 hitter. At his point I say give Reed and Powers their chance. BTW Nebraska has four quality players to step in as starters next year. I am very disappointed. Thank goodness the coaches for the wrestling team don't mind recruiting very good players.

Well, for the rest of you out there in Nittany Land. . . Can the Lions win their last three games? Will they make it to the second round in the playoffs? That is a great question?

I believe they will win their last three matches (Purdue, Northwestern and Illinois, all at Rec Hall). And I believe they will make it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Those are my answers, but they may or may not be great ones.

the negative Nellies are back. Yes it was terrible blow out but NEBRASKA is a very strong and focused team playing at home against a team that has lost its focus.. Give the kids a break they have suffered the loss of dignity and you have just lost some bragging rights:POOR FANS!~.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with you on this one (except as to the four quality players ready to step in next year for Nebraska -- you're probably right; I have no idea). Our players never seem to improve? Well, Coach Rose and many others would, I am willing to bet, disagree with you with respect to, at the very least, Simone Lee. As to our supposed lack of .300 hitters (which I assume means our hitting is bad): 1) Haleigh Washington leads the conference in Conference-only hitting % (.454; .062 above #2 Haleigh Nelson); 2) Penn State is #2 in the conference in team hitting % (again - Conference-only stats) at .279 (Minnesota leads at .299 and Nebraska is #3 at .277). So it's not like our players are washouts. I get that you are very disappointed, but it seems like only a couple of weeks ago you (I think it was you; if not, apologies) were apologizing for having written off Coach Rose and/or the team (I forget the precise scope of your write-off). Now it's back to the write-off. Of course, results haven't been so great the last couple of weeks. But nothing, IMHO, has changed about the makeup of the team or its strengths and weaknesses to give credence to your post.

I am not even sure Russ know who is his setter, he is rolling the dice and hoping one's showing up. Forget about Lee and Washington, the opposing teams know to beat PSU is to serve Frantti and concentrate on Lee and Washington, the rest will make mistakes on their own without any helps. I am hoping ONE of the setters is getting better next year and Cami can play Opp.

But it's a team game, and the blocking also looks to be off to me, which means the opposing teams get cleaner shots, which means the DSs and libero and backrow OHs have tougher digs, which means they probably have poorer passing, which means the setters' options are limited. Not trying to say it's all the fault of poor (poorer) blocking, but there are lots of moving pieces that contribute. The setters are one part.

Certainly our heroines seemed pretty badly outclassed last night. I also understand why many are questioning what is going on since our Juniors were rated the number 1 recruiting class when they came in.
My own ill tutored observation is that there are a lot of different issues. Frantti continues to be inconsistent with serve receive, and is always targeted. Yet she, until last night, plays pretty much the whole match. We can only conclude that Coach does not have faith in the possee of DS players to receive serves (Broerman seemed ok to me last night but I am not in practice).
Neither Weiskircher nor Detering are fantastic, but both are competent at setting. They make more mistakes than we would like, but there are plenty of decent sets which do not lead to kills. Recall last year a Weiskircher set team did fairly well.
Our hitters, who have had plenty of past success, seemingly struggle to find the floor, or tool the block. This has occurred too frequently even when there is a single blocker. Hitter efforts to adjust to aggressive defense leads to too many errors. Nebraska has a tremendous block, and excellent back row players, so Lee especially tried too hard, and the result was lots of negative hitters last night.
Heidi Thelen is a far cry from a top notch RS. Her blocking skills are a plus in that spot but she really does not hit very hard, and so gets dug quite a bit.
During the run of wins, our ladies played confidently, did not let mistakes bother them, and closed out matches. When they have played better opponents on the road, they have looked poor, a little panicky out of sorts. Put differently, if they played 3 sets like the third last night, we would be less confused. The first two sets were hard to watch.
All of the above suggests to me that the team simply needs to get their heads on straight, wipe the slate clean from this year, and next year do what they and we know they are capable of doing. In the meantime, I do hope that they play well in the final regular season matches, win the first round game, and give whoever is hosting a good match in the second round.

Yes, can you imagine coming to PSU, THE VOLLEYBALL KINGDOM OF COLLEGIATE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, and coming with the label of NUMBER 1 IN THAT YEAR and then faced with this failure to win often and critically. They are humbled and this fan criticism seems out of place.
Russ and Salima have International reputations and they see the problems and IF THEY CAN BE FIXED THEY WILL BE. But, just but, they may not be! Players must do it on their own. The coach can tell them what is failing and the THEY ON THEIR OWN TIME MUST LEARN AND FIX.

In my opinion, this team lacks confidence, if nothing else. They have played very well, at times this season, and other times seem to fall apart. I'm not sure how to fix that, but I had the same feeling late last season. I wonder if bringing in motivational speakers would help?

Coach Rose is the best, by far, motivational speaker in the business. So no.
