And what I remember was that when Carpenter did get in, she did not do well. The sets were off and the team did so poorly that Micha had to go back in, even though she was limping badly and could not jump to block. So my point was not so much who was willing to step up, but that we had no one who was ready and able to do so. I am an admirer of Russ Rose, but that situation did leave me with some questions. So one of the benefits of a 6/2 is that both setters will be game ready if another injury occurs. Another benefit is you can wear down an opponent while keeping your players fresh as long as you have the depth, which PSU does now. You can play at a very high pace and watch the opposing team wilt under the pressure of the quick pace. With very few breaks this team could be in the championship match at end of season.

Kathryn Cather, 6-2 Jr RS, Ole Miss to Penn State – Cather hit .351 with 219 kills a year ago for Ole Miss. Her arrival in Happy Valley gives the Nittany Lions another option on the right side behind Heidi Thelen, and freshman Cami May. While Penn State ran mostly a 5-1, having Thelen and Cather allows the Nittany Lions the option of running a 6-2.

Reed will be better than both but adding Kat adds arms, power and depth now at every position.

What are the questions that you are left with in that situation?

The Southeast Conference isn't the B1G, but it's not chopped liver. How often have PSU RS hitters hit at that rate? To date, and to be brutally honest, Reed and Thelen haven't demonstrated that type of hitting efficiency. Reed hasn't demonstrated the skill needed to make it to the floor for most of her time at PSU. I think we all want the team to be successful and I'm sure we want the players to have individual success. Anybody seen the glimmers of a B1G TV schedule?

Now that practice has begun I wonder if any freshmen or transfers will be able to help team as serving subs? I think Cather has the best chance from what I've read.

Have photos of the picnic been posted anywhere online? IIRC, they usually are, but I can't remember where.

You need to update your pics and I am curious to see who you add. You may not have room for all the freshmen.
