I'll take bad announcers. I'd like better volleyball. We're up 3, can we build on it? Or hold it?

Our hitting was good. Lotsa lapses in set three.
Illinois comes in next. Woohoo!

But the bottom line? We played much better. Iowa is good -- they played Stanford tough. Taylor Louis is a very good OH. They are better than last season. They will be tough for us when we play there.

They will be tough for us when we play there. I'm afraid you're right. And I believe they believe they'll be able to take us on their home court. This is going to be an interesting season and I'm not sure I'm interested in this level of suspense. I'm absolutely sure that the teams aren't interested in my interests.

1. Watching IA over the last couple years, it was clear they were improving.I don't think the match reveals our weakness as much as their growing strength...which we're going to be seeing throughout BIG. And we cannot count on roll-over teams anymore.
2. VB is huge in IA...It's been sort of an aberration that the BIG team didn't perform as well as IA St., where I heard they easily fill their arenas and are often ranked.
3. Look at the stat sheets....the stats look better than the match felt.
a. We hit 360+ for the match; a mere 351 in set 3. above our season average for the match. IA managed only .201, even with .350 at best in set 3 (still lower than our %).
b. IA, with their talent, put it all together really for just 1 set and then faltered. talent isn't the only factor, and our team rebounded. I didn't see that scared or mortified look i've seen when they no longer believe in themselves.
c. our lowest hitter still hit .231 w/5 Ks
d 5 hitters were over .300
e. 2 setters had double-doubles with the the assists pretty evenly distributed

This weekend has definitely lowered my expectations for the season. From 50-50 for Big Ten title to 33%. From decent chance at a national title to long shot. From good chance at final four to good chance for round of eight. A home straight-set loss simply should not happen to a Penn State championship team.
Of course it is very early and we don't have a good feel as to how the other contenders will do. There are a bunch of teams who have a shot this year and a bunch more who will be spoilers for the tournament.
On the other hand, there was that horrendous home loss to Illinois in 2014 and the Purdue/Indiana weekend of 2010 and the notion that no team is as bad as we think after a loss and ,,,,,,,

The only way to see whether this season's team can get beyond an apparent debacle is to make it "apparent"--by putting it behind them and winning as they go forward. The 2013 started their B1G season with a home loss to Michigan State and a close win over Michigan and they did pretty well too. We'll see.

It seems that a number of teams have their nemesis no matter rankings and personnel changes throughout all sports
Clearly Nebraska knew and had the execution to break down certain players and limit our options. We have seen this at all levels and various sports.
While other teams may attempt to replicate Nebraska's game plan, Im fairly confident we wont see this happen again in the regular season. #1 They arent Nebraska #2 We dont have that psychological issue with any other team imo.
I still have the 24-24 woulda coulda, but it is slowly fading and for the girls I think many have already moved on. Which is necessary in this league.
Illinois, Illinois, Illinois
