Wisconsin lost 3-1 to Western Kentucky!
OSU lost 3-1 to Wyoming?
What's this going to do to PSU's RPI?
Yikes!

I'm really not that surprised that Wisconsin lost tonight. Carlini has her hands full with this year's Freshmen class. All her reliable Sr's are gone and she pretty much has to start over and learn what her hitters like best. Illinois, even though they won in 3 against Louisville had a tough go of it in going overtime in 2 of the three sets but what do you expect when one of the Asst. Coaches for Louisville is a former Penn State player and 4 time National Champion(Nummy)!.

give me a break the RPI and other rating services are a joke. there was something like 7 or 8 teams that had better RPI's than penn state last year the only poll that counts is who's left standing. and in that regard we are.

My Pick the Winners tanked this week. Sadly, you will not win the Nebraska camo jacket that is going to the winner

I'm not saying I believe the RPI is an accurate measure of a team's quality. The folks who do the seeding may not believe either, but they use it.
Going into this season, PSU's schedule ranked in the 70s in terms of it's strength. With three B1G teams losing that should have won... It doesn't help.

It's really really early and many of these B1G teams are dealing transitions coupled with high expectations, which can translate to pressure points.
Even last night in our match, I thought our Seniors looked uncomfortable.
Many of the B1G teams have a lot more options than other teams so I wouldn't be surprised if they figure it out soon.
However, all these early losses add to the excitement of the season.
I think MSU lost a key outside hitter, which is terrible news.

This is what I was talking about when I said I wasn't surprised Badgers lost to Western Kentucky:
On the radio, Sheff was on talking about how slow the team was to adjust last night vs WKU, and how they had to talk them through adjustments right through the TOs and even after. By the time they made adjustments, WKU had already countered. We forget maybe how savvy the seniors (and Hickey) were on the floor. They could coach themselves through a lot of situations. They could win even when they weren't playing particularly well. It will take a while to get that kind of smarts back.
That team doesn't have last years seniors to lean on to get them out of a jam. That can lead to looking other than themselves individually to make it happen because you are used to that from Seniors. I'm still up in the air about Sheff and will decide if he is the real deal after next season to see how his team does with none of Pete Waite's recruits left on team.

I suspect, based on his track record, that he is a very good coach. But walking into a situation where you get Lauren Carlini as a freshman without having recruited her is certainly good timing, but not good coaching or recruiting.
