And the returning MVP Courtney has never even been 1st team BigTen... #robbed Those B1G awards are numbers-driven in two ways: 1) they're not going to give too many 1st Team awards to one school (I'll check back to see how many Penn State had in 2008), and 2) they look at stats like hitting % and kills/set for OHs, and Courtney's stats didn't shine last year in those categories compared to some featured players from other schools. Nevermind that Megan got a lot of out-of-system balls to hit. Anyway, I share your view that she deserved more recognition in the B1G and nationally.

She must have felt "well awarded" winning the Most Offensive in the Nationals.

And the returning MVP Courtney has never even been 1st team BigTen... #robbed If players voted instead of coaches maybe Courtney would make 1st team. She's a player's player. She'll never get the recognition she deserves because she is so versatile and she is so unselfish. She does whatever helps win -- hitting, blocks, passes, lunging digs, taking out the trash -- anything. The B1G awards seem to be mostly based on statistics, but Courtney doesn't care about stats (and she probably doesn't care much about postseason awards either). If PSU could trade Courtney for any player in the country, I wouldn't do it. She has had a fabulous career but I suspect she has a real burning desire for one more championship.

There aren't too many players in the nation who can do all like Courtney does. Just like 5 tool players are valued in baseball, Courtney can hit, block, serve, pass and dig as well as or better than any player in the nation. PSU has OHs who will step in next year to replace Whitney, as difficult as it maybe, but they do not have anyone who can do what Courtney has done for the team for 4 years. Just hope she'll go out as a NC and AA recognition.

During her first three years, the team had excellent leadership. She'll lead this year and turn it over to next year's leaders. I must guard against getting my hopes too high, but this looks like a great time to be a PSU fan.

A couple years ago the team would drive Rose crazy because Nia Grant and McClendon and Dom were just such nice easygoing people and others were just quiet -- sometimes under pressure they had no one really driving them -- Hancock couldn't do it alone. This group by contrast does not seem easygoing at all. Washington plays with a smile but plays ruthlessly, never lets up. Weiskircher looked so confident and relaxed, which is so important for a setter. Thelen and Holcomb look like very intense competitors. Courtney of course is like a coach out on the court. The way she reads the court and takes what the defense gives her -- it's probably like a clinic for the young players every time they watch her play. She's not physically dominant to be thought of as a USA team player but she is so versatile, I wonder what might be possible. I just re-watched the end of the Stanford match and Rose's postgame comments -- he may have been surprised too by how they suddenly blossomed. He was as happy as you ever see him. We'll see. Last year they played out of their minds at Wisconsin and then struggled for about a month. Illinois always seems to have their number, and that match is coming soon.

After the match on Saturday, Rose was interviewed on BTN and said Holcomb looks meek, but that he thinks she competes very hard.

Is Holcomb a walk-on or on scholarship? I think every starter should be given a scholarship. She will be very experienced by tournament time.

Through all the games we gave seen the girls play it would be my observation that they are smoother and more efficient in a number of areas than last year.
The peaks and valleys seem not as extreme is what I mean.
As said many times we will truly know more in the next 7 days but I kinda like what is going on with this bunch.

After a rocky start against Colorado, they've been very good.

So here we are with a few games left and the NCAA tourney looming.
3 questions.
#1 What lineup does everyone forsee in December?
#2 Will we see Whitney back on the RS at some point?
#3 Will Holcomb start on Wednesday?

Personally, I like Whitney on the outside. With the right sets, she becomes the unblockable go-to hitter. That's how PSU employed her last year and how they used A. Scott the preceding two years. If Lee has to sit to make that happen, so be it.
The Holcomb/Libero situation? I wouldn't hazard a guess. I hope she's a resilient person. Having to sit for most players is not so obvious as it is for a Libero. She needed to sit. I feel for her with having to change her jersey.
Michigan will be looking to kick us while we're down. They know the feeling.
