Ava is one of the best, if not the best, libero in the Class of 2024... But she's also proven herself as an outstanding hitter (Illinois 1st Team All State and Conference POY). That makes me wonder how KSC will ultimately utilize her - As libero or as a DS who can attack from the back. Using Nebraska as an example: Rodriguez vs. Knuckles. Given how we'll probably benefit the most from her defense, I'm guessing it'll make the most sense to have her in the back row the majority of the match as libero, but it's exciting to think about the options that such an elite player will give the team in a couple years.

Such a good thought!! I've noticed this year that the B1G is expecting/depending on backrow personnel to do more than simply bump it over. Can't tell you how many times I remember some of our prior folks getting all chokey when they had no choice but to attack the ball as it was too late/awkward to bump or push. Invariably it would go into the net. (Ironically, some had been front row in HS) But this year...including this past weekend, I've seen backrow folks actually trying to be offensive. Perhaps this is a result of coaches encouraging rather than discouraging offensive behavior. This comes, too, as B1G is depending on front row hitters to better/not bump balls...so I'm seeing real attacks on recovered balls a lot more than we used to.

I talked to Karis Willow at length after tonight’s match. Keep an eye out for the transcript from her interview to be posted here soon.

OK. When did we last hear an OH list a setter, an MB, and an L as her inspiration? Audry Flaugh? No, she referred to Ds as 'doing their little jobs'. The emotional maturity of our players is increasingly flooring me. In a good way.
