Penn State commits Gabby Nichols, Lexi Gin, and Marin Collins took visits to campus last weekend and posed for photos in Rec Hall in Penn State uniforms. Nichols and Gin posted the photos on their Instagram pages. They were joined on campus by 2025 middle blocker Kalyssa Blackshear, an uncommitted 6-foot-4 standout from California, who also appeared in the photos. Would love to see Kalyssa Blackshear commit to Penn State. She gives me Haleigh Washington vibes (moves with grace, can jump out of the gym, and a whip of an arm).

Have you all seen Chloe Chicoine's stats from today's match versus Kentucky?
24-6-48 hitting .375 in 5 sets.
She would have been big for PSU this year.
I'm crying. :-(

Not sure I'm as generous as you. I'm a bit more salty. But if she had to go somewhere, OK, Purdue I can live with.

I'm crying. :-( I'm watching UCLA vs Hawaii and remembered that Ndiaye also decommitted from PSU. Ugh!!! PSU needs to really pick up some pins this next 2 years. I don't want to see baby Starck's 4 years go to waste.

OK. I still think this year’s team will be a top 20 team. That will be two years in a row when Katie has built strong teams through use of the transfer portal. Well done!
But, with the Covid-year anomaly coming to an end, the transfer portal is going to have a reduced effect going forward. So that places the onus on recruiting. This has not been a strength of PSU during the last few years of Russ’ tenure, nor for the last two years.
Assuming they sign, we have two top-tier recruits coming in the class of 2024. But there are still no big hitters coming in.
The amazing thing about Russ’ long career was that he was able to entice all-American players to the middle of Pennsylvania. PA is not a strong high school volleyball state. The countryside is beautiful, but there are more enticing locations for women in their late teens. The fan base at Penn State is okay, but not outstanding (One would have expected sellout crowds at every match in 2007-2010).
With the lure of Penn State’s track record beginning to fade, Katie has a real challenge ahead of her. The recruiting classes of 2025 and 2026 need to be special!

Coach Rose used to recruit some really good OHs as Ls. Roberta Holehouse/Holehaus was one. When asked about her powerful serve she explained she had been an OH all her career. Only a few outliers like the player at Pitt and Autumn Bailey who played at MichSt playing front row at that height.
