Fischer was ranked #15; Fitzpatrick was ranked #28. That's effectively little-to-no difference in ranking. The much asked-about elan McCall was #77 in her year. But although I'm glad Fitzpatrick had a statistically impressive performance in a match like that, I agree with you that it really doesn't prove much -- the dreaded sss (small sample size, not Samantha Seliger Swenson). Fitzpatrick may turn out to be far better than Fischer, or she may not. I have no idea which will happen (and I suspect most viewers of this board are in the same boat). I hope for the former, and root for her either way. Fwiw , I don't think many on this board get upset by objectivity. But sometimes statements that are presented as objective fact are subjective opinion. Which is fine, but it leads to disagreements. I don't think many, if any, will be upset by your statement, which strikes me as being pretty objective. Of course, that's my subjective opinion. . Does any one know what Macy was ranked? Fairly confident she was not ranked at all.

If we're not going to land them, then at least she's going out of conference. Second-best thing that could happen.

Macy not ranked. PrepVolleyball is an opinion poll. UA AA stays is statistically driven. Only player in that match not ranked. Btw unranked OH roofs #1 ranked OH at the end of the second. Nice

What the so-called experts think about a player is subjective, just ask the 6th round draft choice Tom Brady. How many experts missed that one.

Was thinking about Tori (Toni) Gorrell. The recognition she didn't get from awards and polls. How ever did she come to RR's attention in HS?
Wouldn't trade her and her years as a Lion for anyone.

. Does any one know what Macy was ranked? UA AA stays is statistically driven. While that’s basically true, there are some caveats. The only players who can be nominated are by high school coaches who are members of the AVCA. The stats are taken from Maxpreps which is extremely problematic for a number of reasons. The vast majority of high school volleyball teams do not go through the trouble of submitting all the stats for the entire season. Most high school teams don't submit any stats at all. Many high school stats are kept by volunteers who have little vb knowledge.
Add the fact that even in the best high school leagues in the country, there are usually two or three really good teams. The majority of teams have mostly players who are playing for fun and have no thoughts of getting a college volleyball scholarship.

This doesn't prove or disprove anything, but I thought it was interesting: Yosianna Pressly was the #31 Senior Ace in her class; Jordan Thompson was #44 in hers. My long-time, all-time favorite is Karsta Lowe, who was unranked, a walk-on at UCLA, National Championship winner, and Olympic Team member. And it's not even that everybody missed on those players -- players get better in college, and sometimes even grow (I think Lowe grew 2 or 3 inches). Oh, and Micha Hancock was ranked in the 40s. Again, this doesn't prove anything. Except that there are exceptions. We'll know soon enough (well, in eight months) when we see how they play. I do realize this conversation will continue.

We basically have to trust the coaches decision on this, I am sure coach Rose in his 40 plus years, has an insight that simple laymen like us do not have. He has seen enough players over his career to spot the special spark they have that is needed to excel. With that said no one can be right 100% of the time. But it is fun to discuss.

elan McCall to UCLA according to Instagram. Unfortunate honestly, I thought she would have been great as a nittany lion!

elan McCall to UCLA according to Instagram. Unfortunate honestly, I thought she would have been great as a nittany lion! She certainly seemed to have some real plusses, based on her freshman year performance (with enthusiasm tempered by her sophomore year injury). I guess we all like the idea of the shiny new penny, so not knocking your sentiment, but the two who didn't get away have some pretty terrific honors to their credit too. I am enthusiastically all-in on Annie Cate Fitzpatrick and Macy Van Den Elzen! That's not saying there isn't room on the team for a transfer-in -- there definitely is. Just don't want Annie Cate and Macy to be forgotten as we focus our attention on the latest rumors.

Yes, I agree after the showing at the Under Armour game in Florida, I also can't wait to see them play. Hopefully, Annie Cate is 6 rotation stud.

I looked at the Penn State thread on another website for the first time in about a year. What a useless mess. Reminds me why I don't go there any more.
