Cassar lost a very close bout in the finals, 3-2. Nevills placed third in the same weight class. Too bad only one can go to nationals. RBY was winning 8-2 when he was thrown on his back and pinned. That was a little disappointing. Other than that, it was a terrific tourney for Penn State. Almost tempting to subscribe to FLOWrestling to view the matches. I could watch all of Bo Nickal's matches in under 11 minutes. I'm thinking both RBY and Caesar will learn from their experiences and be better prepared as PSU's B1G season opens.

PSU defeated Northwestern 33-8 on Friday evening. I was otherwise engaged during the match, but GOPSUSPORTS did it's typically excellent job. Here's a link to their write-up: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/11/wrestling-no-1-penn-state-crushes-no-11-northwestern-in-b1g-opener.aspx Highlights of the match included Jason Nolf's 100th victory and Bo Nickal's 51st pin--he's chasing Nolf who has the school record at 54. Vincenzo Joseph did not wrestle, letting Bo Pipher (who moved up to 165) go for it. Unfortunately, Pipher lost a hard-fought 11-9 match. Lots of other good stuff to be found in the GOPSUSPORTS report. PSU hosts Wisconsin on Sunday which will be on BTN2GO.

I hope Nickal doesn't go at the pin record too hard and risk making a mistake.

I hope Nickal doesn't go at the pin record too hard and risk making a mistake. I think Bo goes for the pin every time he steps on the mat. I can't even comment on whether he actually sees this as a competition with Jason Nolf, although my choice of words about "chasing" could lead one to that conclusion. My apologies. I've seen quite a few of Nickal's matches this year, I found a YouTube thing that showed his Southern Scuffle pins, and I'd have to say that, overall, his opponents so far this season haven't been too competitive whereas Nolf's had a tougher row to hoe. For a shameless homer like me, I find watching PSU's wrestling team as a great way to spend time.

PSU prevailed over a surprisingly tough Wisconsin team 24-13 in a sold-out Rec Hall on Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin won four of the 10 matches including 4th-ranked Nick Lee's first loss of the season. None of PSU's six win came by fall, although Jason Nolf and Mark Hall secured Technical Falls. Here's a link to the GOPSUSPORTS write-up: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/13/wrestling-no-1-penn-state-downs-no-19-wisconsin-in-sold-out-rec-hall.aspx . Vincenzo Joseph, PSU's top-ranked 165-pound wrestler, did not appear for the second straight match. The commentators said he was ill and they expected him to return to the lineup next week. PSU hosts Nebraska next Sunday.

I noticed that he seemed to have a "hitch" in his step, but he seemed fine later in the match. He looked good against Wisconsin.

Lee and Berge gave up late points to lose bouts they shouldn't have lost. Pipher made a good effort but was a bit outclassed by a bigger opponent. Can't wait to get Cenzo back in the lineup.

LionVision is pretty decent, especially if nothing else is available. IIRC, the LionVision feed features Ironhead's commentary, simultaneously.
