We've added a Penn State vs. Wisconsin write-up to DigNittany, with Haleigh Washington's video interview, video of The Kick (thanks to gnu2vball), Sheff's press conference (and transcript) and B1G stats. Here's the link: Match Day: Penn State vs. Wisconsin (with Haleigh Washington and Kelly Sheffield video interviews). And here's an excerpt: The Rivalry.Penn State (11-0 and #1-ranked) takes on #16-ranked Wisconsin (8-2) tonight at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall to open its B1G schedule. This would be a much-anticipated match even if it were only the opening of the B1G season for the two teams. But there’s history here: Penn State knocked off the Badgers 3-1 in the 2013 NCAA title match, followed that up with a B1G season-opening sweep of Wisconsin at the Field House on September 24, 2014, and capped off the trilogy with a 3-1 win over the Badgers in the Regional Finals in December 2014. Of course, many of the players on these teams are different from the players who played in those previous matches, and as Club Coach and Talking Head noted in their Match Preview Q&A on Monday, Coach Rose approaches every match — whether in-conference, ranked, or un-ranked — the same way: with respect for the opponent and preparation, preparation, preparation. That approach certainly has paid off this season, as has swept all 11 of its opponents (and won its last 38 consecutive sets). It will be business as usual for the Nittany Lions. And it should be a great match.

Let's not kid ourselves - this match means everything to Wisconsin. If they could win it; the season would be successful regardless of how the rest of their season goes. They had this date circled ever since we won the national championship. I expect them to give 110% effort and hope we will have an off night. I hope we get a SRO crowd to cheer our ladies on to a stellar victory. Go State!

Thanks for including the Sheffield interview. I like him about as much as any competing coach. I hope he gets more reps at dealing with defeat at PSU's hands.

I have a feeling the reason they lost to Arkansas was b/c Sheffield has been prepping them for us for the past two weeks. They should have never lost to Arkansas.

My take away from the game--Weiskircher is a very good setter--she is connecting very well. The hitters look good for a reason. Can you imagine the next three years?

However, her hitters have found another level in themselves and they are learning to go there when they want to and when it counts. Her delivery is very consistent and easy to read for her hitters. Not to knock Micha, but thats one of the things people spoke of when discussing her shortcomings.

Penn State players just overpowered them. I was waiting for Sheffield to get a ladder and put out on court so his players can block Washington and Whitney. Match went as I expected. Not overly confident but have been watching Wisconsin all thru pre-season and they can't seem to get their offense going(steady) this year. Just not connecting good with hitters. Serve receive not great. Maybe will get it together down the road but I see many more losses for this team in conference play. On a side note, I got my mother hooked on Penn State Women's VB a few years ago and now she's a season ticket holder and goes to all the home matches. She and another relative were there tonight and saw the camera's were on them for a long time and wondered what was going on. I told her that they are doing a special with Penn State and Wisconsin Women Volleyball teams on BIG channel called. "BIG Close UP 2015" So relative may be on TV during that show. Relative will not be happy LOL!!! not a fan of being on TV. Special airs on Wed 30 Sep at 10:00pm ET. Of Course that depends on whether or not the Illinois vs Wisconsin match is over with in time. Being replayed on Oct 2 after the Penn State vs Nebraska match so it again depends on whether or not the match is done on time. Does anybody besides me see a pattern here? Maybe it will be available online on 30 Sep.

I'll make a prediction. Many setters that can get their team hitting over .330 would receive much praise. Weiskircher won't. It's because her hitters are so good (and they are), but PSU setters just don't get the love.

Many people thought that the loss of Hancock would negatively impact PSU this year more than anything. Even though it is true that replacing a national player of the year would be a tall task, I think Weiskircher has proven to be a much better player than many of us thought. She is still setting a bit behind the outside hitters, especially to Courtney, but she has done a solid job setting thus far and the team's hitting percentage proves it. She'll even improve her overall skills by the tournament time. if there was any doubt as to who's number 1, tonight's game confirmed it's PSU.

I love this Nittany Lion team. They are playing some outstanding volleyball. I do too, and they are, but passing was a bit suspect against Wisconsin. They need to clean that up.

That's true but they have a very talented true freshman libero in her first B1G match. The passing will improve and may improve a lot. When the passing was better, as in the 2nd set, this was not a competitive match.
