In looking at what NW did in beating PSU and since it seems that they have to have a good defensive game to have a chance (Blocking and digging) It also reaffirms my thought of how bad PSU was on their attack and transition in that first meeting. ...................K...E...Att..% PSU Totals 5 56 25 161 .193 I expect PSU to do their jobs with attention and efficiency this time around. www.nusports.com/cumestats.aspx?path=wvball&Northwestern Opponent SP K E TA Pct Ast SA SE RE Dig BS BA BE TB BHE Pts Penn State W 5 67 30 175 .211 62 5 15 2 75 0 16 2 8.0 1 80.0 Nebraska L 3 36 20 101 .158 33 3 8 7 41 2 0 3 2.0 1 41.0 Iowa W 4 57 17 130 .308 47 5 9 5 60 6 16 2 14.0 3 76.0 Purdue L 3 31 18 97 .134 25 4 4 4 35 0 0 1 0.0 1 35.0 Indiana L 3 30 18 89 .135 27 1 12 3 26 1 6 4 4.0 0 35.0 Michigan L 3 36 16 104 .192 35 2 7 4 36 2 10 2 7.0 2 45.0 MSU W 4 54 18 116 .310 51 4 2 2 40 9 10 7 14.0 1 72.0 Illinois L 5 62 40 196 .112 57 8 10 3 69 4 10 3 9.0 1 79.0 Illinois L 4 50 29 167 .126 50 4 7 2 68 2 12 1 8.0 2 62.0 Minnesot L 4 63 29 161 .211 62 3 5 4 65 2 8 3 6.0 2 72.0 Purdue L 4 51 19 145 .221 45 7 9 7 53 3 10 3 8.0 3 66.0 MSU L 4 54 26 159 .176 51 5 9 4 63 1 12 1 7.0 2 66.0 Iowa W 3 42 13 109 .266 39 3 7 2 41 1 18 1 10.0 1 55.0

Now that PSU has significantly improved the libero position I expect PSU will stay in system more and simply overpower the Northwestern defense. It makes you wonder why PSU didn't make this change months ago. Sometimes we are too stubborn for our own good.

To think we won't have some bumps and bruises still to come would not be wise.
At this point, looking in the rear view mirror would be counterproductive I fully believe.
Maybe it had to happen this way for this team and players.
My humble advise would be for the next 4 weeks, set our gps, look out over the dashboard and take one mile marker at a time and believe that all our cylinders are in working together.
Raise your arms up and enjoy the ride !

It makes you wonder why PSU didn't make this change months ago. Sometimes we are too stubborn for our own good. My feeling is if K Pierce was an incredible improvement, she would have taken hold of the libero spot a lot sooner. Being stubborn is human nature, yes, but if State's problems were really as simple as the libero, I have faith the switch would have been made sooner. Speaking to cross5's point: In the present, while it's great Pierce and the team as a whole looked much better, it's still only three sets and a team State should be beating (all due respect to Maryland). There are likely still bumps in the road to come. In fact, I have a feeling the libero spot is still very much a competition. Keeton will get her share of time on the court, libero or not. I don't think she even got on the court in the Maryland match; makes me wonder if this was a rest game. Will definitely be interesting to watch how this plays out in addition to see if Thelen can round out her game and allow Whitney to play more right side (is it right side or outside, honestly can't remember). Courtney looks close to her old self, which may have been the most promising aspect of the whole weekend. Anyway, my point is that this team still is taking shape despite it being late in the season. Definitely looking forward to the ride.

If they can not beat Northwestern on Weds, regardless of position changes, Penn State is in big trouble come tournament time.

PSU had a great game against Maryland--a team that was tough for them the first time around. Is Maryland a good team?--probably better than their record indicates.
PSU played their best game since,,,a long time ago. Should we think PSU is ready to win six straight in the tournament? Uhhhh... maybe. I'm probably the only fan guilty of being ready to write them off this season after the Michigan loss. But after Saturday night, my hopes were high for a good post season.
Today, I'm careful. I don't want to be dizzy with success (apologies to V.I. Lenin). Maybe Pierce is the answer. Let's see how things go this week. They should sweep Northwestern. I'd like to see them beat Nebraska--they went into the 2013 and 2014 Tournaments with victories over the Huskers. How they do in Lincoln will provide a good gauge as to how ready they are.

OK, I had to look that up (regrets of a misspent youth . . . and young adulthood . . . and, well you get the point), but the Internet says that's Stalin (who was almost certainly a Nebraska fan, what with the Big Red stuff and all that)

What a guy! I hope I never have to work the death, tragedy, and statistic quote into a serious posting. And if it was Uncle Joe, I guess I do owe apologies to Lenin.
The Nebraska fan angle... You may have something there. Watching the whole Devaney Center scene is kind of unnerving. A total lack of spontaneity. Go BIG RED!!! And then there's that Bob's Big Boy mascot standing on its head, or the cheerleaders standing still but for making the pompoms appear to vibrate while the band plays that song you always hear from the Texas band. Creepy.

It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything. Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas. Death is the solution to all problems. No man - no problem. Signed Uncle Joe As lilly von schtupp would say "ahhh....what a nice guy"

I am not predicting victories but I see the team is now playing as a unit and the backrow is holding up so far. I am very optimistic that we will play well the rest of the season (win or lose). I think things are looking up.

I continue to marvel at how our opinions (mine included) of this team swing dramatically with each match.
I suppose our inconsistent opinions are consistent with the teams inconsistent performances.
