We've posted a look at all of the subregionals. Here's the link: NCAA Tournament Talk: Lionsfan Looks at the Brackets and the Road to Omaha
I made this a separate post because there are links to each of the "Tournament Central" home pages (except for Nebraska, which as of this posting did not have one that was readily apparent — sort of like their seating for parents of visiting team’s players). I find those to be very helpful (though that may be an idiosyncratic preference). Plus, I think Lionsfan's write-up is a point of departure for talking about all of the brackets.
Here's an excerpt from his Des Moines Regional write-up:

Hawaii not being seeded is no head scratcher. I've watched every home match this season and a couple of away matches. Dave Shoji scheduled mostly a weak pre season and only beat one top 25 ranked team this year( Florida; and also the only team they beat that is in post season) and lost to only other top 25 team they played(UCLA). Florida is not the team we thought they would be this year so them beating Florida is not as big of a deal as it would have been if they had beaten FL last season. Hawaii is in a weak conference and most of their opponents had poor RPI's. Also Hawaii stayed home for first 13 matches before going on the road(2 matches) this year and coming back for 6 more matches at home. All three pre season tournament's they were in were at home. They played a total of 19 home and 8 away matches this year. That being said, they are a scrappy team and they rely mostly on their OPP Nikki Taylor(JR) and MB Olivia Magill (SR).

The Wahine fans on VT seem more exuberant than usual about this tournament. They talk about Hawaii's block and defense in almost mystical terms. Are those big strengths, with other weaknesses (setting? lack of terminal outsides?) leading to their performance (and your assessment) or are blocking and defense not really all that special?

Interesting write up. Thanks for the heads up on HI. I hope we can play them for the Shoji-Rose narrative. The amount of home games for HI made me think about PSU's schedule of late. We played 8 of our final 12 games away, and lost 3 matches in that span. Also, this year we had a lot more Wednesday matches compared to last year's schedule, which I didn't like because it doesn't allow the players enough rest time between matches. The travel and odd schedule I think affected the team's performance. I'm glad we'll be home for the first 2 rounds.

In my opinion, they are only a good blocking team because of the lack of quality competition they have played. Nikki Taylor has a hard fast jump serve but we are used to those type of serves. As for blocking, most of their blocking comes from middle which we can get around and also from Nikki Taylor which Whitney can go over or around If we play them and get a good lead on them, they probably won't be able to come back. Here is the Florida Match if you haven't seen it yet. Remember, they haven't played any top 25 talent away from their home court and their home crowd is kinda like playing in Omaha where there will be around 17K fans if Nebraska get's there to FF. NOTE: 1st 30 minutes is pre game show(recommend watching it since Dave Shoji talks about their inconsistency which hasn't changed). Maybe someday we will have this type of coverage!

Hey, PSUM: thanks for that analysis. why do you think the coach is (essentially) under-prepping the team? i assume that's not his goal; is there something going on w/teams not willing to go to HI pre conference or HI travel budget under a strain (limiting them in pre-C)?

I hear all the time that it's about $$$$(but I call BS on that excuse) but from what I know about Dave and I have been closely following Wahine volleyball since 1982, He's a great coach but tends to be a whiner and that reflects on his players when they are interviewed(that we don't get respect attitude; we deserve this and we deserve that). As a leader, this is bad form. I've also seen him( a few times) send out towel person to wipe up fictitious wet spots when he had already used all his time outs just to slow down opposing team if they are on a run. If we get replay next season I see him using it just to slow down match. I think he knows that if he goes away to play tough teams in preseason, it won't turn out well away from the Stan Sheriff Center that early in the season. Case in point, this team had all kinds of problems at beginning of season but being at home they were able to work out some of those issues in front of a home crowd against less than stellar competition. This being said, Wahine are my second favorite team.

Sad. Just saw Sheffield pull the "fictitious wet spot" ploy in set 3 of the Wisconsin-Oregon game.

How else can he possibly expect to gather enough intellectual acumen to figure out a proper strategy to beat Penn State - his arch enemy???

Will Annie Drews return from wherever she was? The Boiler makers will need her.

USC Kansas Purdue in upset FSU in upsetStanford Wisconsin Round I Prediction winnersMichigan UCLA UNC Creighton Washington MSU Kentucky OSU BYU WKY KSU Nebraska PSU Vill Hawaii TAMU Luisville Ill UNI Minn I would've picked Purdue for the upset as well, if they weren't so inconsistent. My other picks which differ from yours (most were the same) Dayton > Villanova Marquette > UNI Arizona > W. KY Florida > FL State
