Coach Rose made a significant change to start the B1G season. He inserted Tori into the service rotation instead of Allyson. Since he wanted Keeton serving, she became the sub for Allyson and Jenna became the sub for Tori. So the rotations for the B1G season became.

Thanks so much! It's always interesting to see which rotations are doing what, especially as I generally don't keep very good track of this during matches.

The serving order that I used above is Gray, Parker, Gorrell, White, Holcomb, Blossom. [Gorrell at Opposite??] That was used in 4 matches. (Rutgers, Iowa, Maryland, Wisconsin)
However that was changed up in three matches to Gray, Gorrell, Parker, White, Holcomb Blossom. [Parker at Opposite??] (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State)
And in two matches it was changed to Gray, Holcomb, Parker, White, Gorrell, Blossom. [Parker at Opposite??] (Illinois, second Maryland match)
Cathey was still serving in the first B1G match. (Michigan State) [Parker at Opposite??]
The question marks indicate that this year's system dramatically blurs the role of each position. Our front line players move all over the court.
I have no idea about the strategies involved in adjusting the order. Something to do with front row matchups??
Any ideas?

John, I couldn't agree more! I feel like we have front row hitters. Serena seems almost to be in OPP territory some of the time; Jonni is OH/OPP... It seems to eliminate some of the transition we'd otherwise be having.
And, if it confuses ME, I'll bet it confuses the opposition!

I was going to ask about that issue too-there have been so many variants this year that it is virtually impossible to draw the kind of analysis you have historically performed. The middle hitter/libero rotation has been stable, and for the most part Gabby serves first. But otherwise, the staff has found it necessary to move the hitters around. I think largely that has been to address blocking issues, but as Traveler noted, Cathey swings from the right side one or two times each match (in system only!), and Parker hits from both outside positions when she is in the front. The serving substitutions have not been consistent either. Mostly Holcomb for Cathey, but sometimes its Sciorra. Hampton seems to be paired with Gorrell lately. Then Peed comes in for Parker at the end of sets maybe to give Parker a rest but possibly to provide a change of pace.

I've heard Coach Rose describe this year's team as featuring a "hybrid" offence. I'd say that fits with what we've been saying in this thread.

Then Peed comes in for Parker at the end of sets maybe to give Parker a rest but possibly to provide a change of pace. The DS substitutions using Jenna and Keeton have been consistent in that Keeton always subs for the non-serving front row player (lately that has been Cathey) while Jenna never serves and always comes on for the serving front row player (lately Gorrell). Jenna is one of the very few players who has never served this year.

Jenna not serving is surprising since she was one of the ace leaders last season. Tori obviously has an effective serve and seems to be progressing faster than Cathey at OH. So that switch seems logical.
