Penn State #15 in NCAA RPI. Need to stay above #16.

Not bad. They could still get a seed with a final RPI in the teens IMO.

My comment to Bluepenquin on VT: I hate to say it, but I think that with a future RPI in the high teens, PSU will get seeded. Jumping 2-3 spots (with an RPI of 18-19, for example) to get seeded is very common for the committee.
Bluepenquin's response: Pro: Unlimited drive in teams that would have to fly for any other seed. It is the Big Ten, and jumping up a couple spots is very common. Cons: Their resume absent a win against Minnesota or Wisconsin at home to end the season will be extremely light for a typical 4th place team in the Big Ten. They have just one top 25 win (Pittsburgh) with the aforementioned possibility of MN/Wis. Michigan, Illinois and Iowa State are their only Top 50 wins so far with the possibility of adding Illinois and Purdue. Purdue could move into the top 25, but Michigan and/or Illinois could move out of the Top 50. To put this in perspective - Rice already has two top 25 wins with one of them being against Texas along with the potential for a couple more with Western Kentucky. Even if PSU wins one of those last two matches - they still may have fewer T25 wins than Rice and that is not normal for PSU.

Jumping 2-3 spots (with an RPI of 18-19, for example) to get seeded is very common for the committee. I gotta agree with you. I've seen that happen before with PSU. I also think that the NCAA committee really wants a seeded team in the PSU area as that would (I think) make travel restrictions et al for the committee easier to deal with. It's also my opinion that the RPI in women's volleyball is really flawed. How many times times have we seen a really high ranked team (RPI) lose to a 5th or 6th much lower ranked B1G team. I would find it hard to believe that PSU is that much worse (if unseeded) than Nebraska who is ranked currently 6th. I really think that PSU is gonna do well in the NCAA so long as they don't end up going against Stanford, Texas or Wisconsin early on; which could happen if they aren't seeded. Even then, I'm pretty sure none of those teams would want to play PSU early on. I do think that PSU can beat Minnesota at home at the end of Nov. Not sure about Wisconsin. I think Wisconsin may be just too good. By the same token, who knows? PSU should have won the first two games in the Wisconsin match. That was one match this year where they just had a melt-down. I doubt that will happen again. But, one has to keep remembering that this is a young team. They are going to periodically not show up and not play very close to what they are capable of. Sorry grammar police about ending a sentence with a preposition (I have read that that no longer matters). As Churchill was reported to have said, (tho maybe not really said by him), "This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put."

Best use of phrase "arrant pedantry" on this board evah! ( Only use of the phrase "arrant pedantry" on this board evah !!!😄)

So I now know that "arrant" means "complete and utter." Silly me, I thought it was an alternate spelling for "errant" (which to my point of view, pedantry is always-ur, "evah"- errant.)
I shall look for opportunities to use "arrant" without being a pedant.
