Kendall White became the first player in Penn State women’s volleyball history to earn Big Ten defensive player of the year honors twice in a row when the conference announced its postseason awards Wednesday afternoon. Russ Rose was named Big Ten coach of the year for the 16th time by his peers, while Wisconsin’s Kelly Sheffield took home the media vote. Jonni Parker and Kaitlyn Hord joined White as unanimous selections to the All-Big Ten first team, while Gabby Blossom earned a spot on the second team. Emily Sciorra was Penn State’s sportsmanship award winner. www.dignittanyvolleyball.com/four-penn-state-womens-volleyball-players-earn-all-big-ten-honors/

PSU is the only team with 3 unanimous selections on 1st team. I feel bad that Hart from WI got the nod over Gray on 2nd team. Serena does so much.

I feel bad that Hart from WI got the nod over Gray on 2nd team. Serena does so much. Surprised Gray didnt get the nod as well. Just saw on VT that Hart’s stats higher than Gray though. Serena Gray has 15 BS and 64 BA in 102 sets this season, 0.77 blocks per set. Danielle Hart has 8 BS and 97 BA in 96 sets this season, 1.09 blocks per set.

I am pleased that RR was acknowledged for what is obviously an impressive job with this group. Many of my friends on this site have aptly observed that this team had some issues to work through. In response, the staff deployed its talent in ways that both covered for any deficiencies and allowed players to expand their skill sets. The team has improved as a group and exceeded initial expectations, and when Coach pushed buttons, the results were usually positive.
