So, I’ve been looking at the rotation data for the season and the B1G season. But it seems to me that the most interesting data comes from the last 12 matches of the season. This is true not only because it is the most recent data, but it represents the data compiled in matches where the team’s current rotation sequencing was in effect. So, the following comments all reflect data from those twelve matches.
Rotation Data:
Rotation 1 (Gabby serving) has been and remains the team’s strongest rotation winning 58.2% of 337 points played.
Rotation 2 (Tori serving) is the weakest rotation winning only 49.5% of 279 points played.
Rotation 3 (Kendall serving) is strong serving at 49.7% points won but isn’t as strong as other rotations siding out (62.4%).
Rotation 4 is the best at siding out winning 71.5% of 223 points played. But rotation 4 is the second weakest serving rotation at 40.7% won.
Rotation 5 (Keeton serving) and Rotation 6 (Serena serving) have similar results to each other winning 54.4% and 55.1% of total points played.
Overall team totals show the team winning 54.6% of total points played by winning 44.7% of points served and siding out at 66.3%.
Middles in the Front Row:
Do we do better with Serena in the front row or with Kaitlyn in the front row? It turns out that it is a dead heat as the team won 54.7% (515-427) with Kaitlyn up front and won 54.6% (510-424) with Serena up front. But there is a significant difference in how the points are won. With Kaitlyn in the front row the team sided out at 69.7% against 62.9% with Serena in the front row. On the other hand with Serena up front the team won 47.3% of points served versus 42.2% with Kaitlyn in the front.
Individual Servers:
Not surprisingly, given the rotation results, Gabby and Kendall lead the way in serving. Gabby edges Kendall with a 90-89 record against Kendall’s 88-89. Keeton and Jonni are last among the regulars with Jonni’s serves leading to wins 41.5% of the time and Keeton checking in at 40.8%.
There has been an interesting movement among the service subs. The clear leaders during the first eight matches of the B1G season were McCall (13-9) and Emily (16-17). But during the last twelve matches McCall’s numbers were 3-14 and Emily showed 19-34.
In contrast the other three subs (Molly, Kristin, and Brooklyn) are on the upsurge. Combined, they served only four points in the first eight matches for a 2-2 result. In the last twelve matches those three combined for a 15-12 result.
