Lots of interesting comments after my initial post. (Think I got my spelling of Cincinnati correct). Pitt's serve receive was poor and this was a major factor, combined with the awesome hitting of Thompson. I didn't know she'd been on the US national team - how much court time did she get? Penn State will know where the ball is going to be set most of the time and will hopefully be able to block Thompson just enough to make her worry a little, so that she tries too hard or goes for a higher risk shot. It will be hard, in my opinion, for Cincinatti to raise their game again to the height they did against Pitt. For those who follow English football (soccer) - when a lower league team knocks a higher league team out of the FA Cup, they almost always get hammered in the next round due to failure to reach the same high level of motivation.

Thompson played quite a lot in the Volleyball Nations League matches, doing pretty well. I think Karch is giving serious consideration to putting her on the Olympic roster next year in Tokyo.

On the NCAA site, they put up video of the last few points. The announcer maintains that she is the best player in the country. I'd hadn't heard of her until today (not that I'm a good barometer...). Couple thoughts: 1) she'll be in the eye of the AA/POY selection teams by going to the Sweet 16 2) she may give some competition to Rettke and Plummer 3) and speaking of that, will Plummer's absence this year, which was fairly lengthy, provide some space for others to be considered? Rhetorical questions? She is very athletic, and jumps higher than Rettke and Plummer. I have not seen her play at Cincy but this Summer she was the revelation of the VNL.

She mostly plays OPP on the National team. I think she is a lock for the Olympics, maybe even as number one option there. Top competition for that spot is Annie Drews followed by Karsta Lowe.

This is going exactly as I expected. We are struggling at the beginning and Cincy is playing loose. Hope that the ladies warm up and play better.

Do we have double digit service errors in set 1? Not yet but too many. Cincy playing pretty good defense and stressing our serve receive a little.
