Thanks, nyline, Talking head tells it like it is, and the fact Alvey was a coach on Temple that sent the Nittany Lions packing in 2002, well lets hope she does not repeat that performance.

Such a balanced perspective-very welcome. I was happily surprised to see TH's suggestion about the final four. That would mean beating Stanford-
If things go according to seeding, PSU will be playing two of the three best players in the Country (in a row). I for one will be impressed if we are able to advance through the Regional.

Here’s a great video about Jordan Thompson’s participation in the Volleyball Nations League and Olympic qualifying this past summer for the U.S. national team.

Thanks, Ethan, Liked seeing Megan there, Kinda wish Jordan was a Lion, not a Bearcat after that video.

Thompson is the best offensive player in the country. But Rose will have a blocking scheme and floor defense that will give her trouble. And the rest of the Cincinnati team won't be enough to beat Penn State.

As to blocking schemes, in several matches this season, Coach put Gorrell with Hord and had both of them block the right side (opponent OH), with Gabby providing tip cover. Haven't seen that of late. That strategy means that Gorrell must run a lot, and that she is not in the first three rotations (as she has been in the most recent matches). Another factor is whether Allyson will be fully available. I am not certain that Lauren is quite as good as Allyson at blocking.
I am also reminded of the blocking scheme employed against Stanford. Plummer did not seem bothered by it much. Of course we have improved a lot as a group since the early part of the season.
Coach specifically pointed out that one can't focus on a single player, and Talking Head identified other Cincy players who could create some problems. So as always, we will have to serve tough and try to make it hard to get Thompson the ball where she wants it, and be efficient on offense to minimize the number of swings Cincy gets overall.

Going by seeding, that would have to rank as one of the biggest pairs of upsets in tournament history. It certainly would have the volleyverse all akimbo.

So various yoga poses aside (while "akimbo" is not a yoga pose with which I am familiar, there are other apt stances, such as "Tree"), it seems prudent to focus on this evening's match, which will be a major challenge, before looking ahead to what might be. If our ladies perform well, and they win (they could perform well and still be beaten), then they must perform well anew against a formidable foe on its home court.
