Spoilers - NCAA Regional Finals

I'm torn in this match: On the one hand, I really, really dislike John Cook and Nebraska. It may be pure prejudice on my part, but he and they just rub me the wrong way. On the other hand, I really like the state of Wisconsin. Lots of relatives there. But I really, really dislike Kelly Sheffield -- the only coach to be rude to me in a post-match press conference. Plus I don't like his on-court demeanor. But I'm going with Wisconsin as the lesser of two weavels (Master and Commander reference).

First, dispite his behavior I'm still rooting for his team.

But since you insist: He was very dismissive of a question I asked -- as though it was a dumb question, which I've confirmed with coaches -- not Penn State -- that it was not, though you can judge for yourself.  In the Wisconsin match, Rettke scored the first 4 points for Wisconsin in the first set. She then didn't score again until the very end of the set, and they didn't seem to be trying to set her.  Which was weird, because meanwhile, Penn State had carved a lead which they never relinquished in that set.  So I was wondering what had happened.  I started by congratulating him and his team on their win, then asked him something like "what happened there? Did Penn State make an adjustment, or was it just the randomness of volleyball?"  He made a dismissive face (you had to be there, but trust me, it was) and then said "I don't know, was something going on?  Syd [Hilley], Grace [Loberg] was something going on?"  No answer from either of them.  And then he said "Any other questions?"  That's nothing like the kind of response other coaches have given to questions -- different questions, of course, but in the ballpark of "give us some insight into the match."  Even if it was some tactical thing he didn't want to get into, he could have (and Russ Rose would have) given a better answer than that.

fwiw, the Wisconsin beat reporter had asked the first five or six questions in a row, which I don't mind given that it's a paying job for him, but when I finally got the chance to ask a question, I expected more than that.  Coach Rose would never respond like that to a beat reporter.  Not the worst thing to happen in life -- far from it -- but again, no other coach has behaved that way.

Yes nyline, I am right there with you, I dislike both, but all thing's being equal I will root for the cheddar to steam the corn. 

Wisc defense so impressive.

Wisc sweeps Neb. Should be a great semifinal against Baylor.
