Now that I've got your attention.
It's radical! But could improve all phases of our game.
Her steadiness and leadership could really be of benefit back there.
There's no other player who could raise the overall play in the back court.
Essentially moving Holcomb to DS.

Then Courtney would not be able to hit out of the pipe. I think Holcomb is doing a tremendous job at Libero. She's a great passer and she is improving her digging skills with every game. I read that she was getting coached up by Dom Gonzales. Courtney's greatest asset is being a great all-around player. She excels in every position so why limit her? Even coach Rose said that she's talented enough to be a Setter but he won't put her in that position.

BTW what is going on with Frantti? Her attack % is in free fall as her defense improves.

She has much more defensive responsibilities as a 6 rotation player. I think she is a big game player and will show up when needed. For now PSU is winning with the other pin hitters, so her lack of offense isn't hurting the team.

Defenses are really tuned into Frantti this year and it doesn't look like her hitting game has advanced much. Which is completely understandable because what the team needed most from her going into the season were improvements in passing and back row defense. I think she has improved a lot as a back row player. There is a ton of room for improvement as a hitter and that is a good thing. Just like McClendon, as she has time she will develop a more complete hitting repertoire. You can she she is starting to develop the off-speed game but it's only a start. Too much of the time she is just trying to pound the ball through the block -- and the percentage of success on that just drops lower and lower as opposing teams figure her out.

Funny, there's a different version of the "why doesn't Courtney play XXX" thread every year. A couple years ago when Hancock was still learning to be a setter, people were calling for Courtney to take over as setter. There were even rumors that Rose asked her to try setting. (or maybe it wasn't rumors -- maybe Rose just mentioned this, I don't recall) Yeah, Courtney could be the best libero in college volleyball if she dedicated herself to that. But she's worth much more to the team in the role she's in. They get her scoring, they get her remarkable solo blocking, they get her passing and defense in the back row, plus the pipe which has been unstoppable this year. Meanwhile, Holcomb is doing just fine. She's not going anywhere. A lot of people think Wong-Orantes (Nebraska) is the best libero in the conference right now. Well Holcomb's numbers digging and serve receive are comparable to Wong-Orantes' numbers as a freshman in 2013. .960 recept rate (Wong-Orantes was .970 for the season), 3.48 digs per set (compared with 3.5). I really like Holcomb's court presence a lot. Whether she's relaxed or in a panic, she never shows it. And that is really good quality in a libero.

Holcomb has been great. Pressure to play at Penn State, not knowing the speed of the game, new faces (for her), and yet she has improved in virtually every match. In fact, she has started to do more of the talking and communicating before and after each point, rather than 'deer in the headlights' look that most all freshman exhibit (as she did early on). Think she's a winner for us. Time will tell, but she seems like a teachable player as well as one who WANTS to learn. And, Ali has certainly proved herself invaluable in back row. Some amazing play. Kudos for that. Offense will come. And as most of us say, we have the offensive weapons. I, for one, relish the back row play and defensive growth and talent Ali is displaying.

Indeed, Holcomb has been better than many of expected, with few exceptions. I also agree that Frantti showed some improvement in her defense in the recent games, especially the game against MSU. Now, only if she can get back the offensive power she showed last year. If so, we no longer have to even consider moving Courtney to libero.

It was NEVER EVER considered. I know, but it speaks volume about the PSU back row defense that people are even bring the notion up. It showed some sign of improving against MSU last week, but unless it is on a consistent basis, People will continue to entertain the thought. Hope her ankle injury is healed to the point that she'll be back to her old self. I would be far more confident against OSU with her than not

From what perspective or what volleyball backgrounds? I was thinking since the Packers #1 wide receiver was lost for the season it might be best to switch Aaron Rodgers there as he know all the routes and can recognize defenses and he has speed. Just throwing this out there. Also even though the Broncos are 6-0 they might best be served to go out and get Tim Tebow to replace P. Manning because at least then they will have a mobile quarterback who is a winner too. That speaks volumes about the situation.
