I was just watching the new Athletes Unlimited League play. I found it to be uninteresting, convoluted, and confusing. Has anyone else watched and have an opinion about the concept?

I have tried to watch it as well. Don't get the whole concept and confusing draft system. I have looked at several of the matches, got disinterested before the first set was half over, and removed the series from my record list.

I have it but haven't watched it yet. In view of your comments, it'll be interesting to see what it's like.

Russ Rose last week on the Athletes Unlimited league:
“I’ve watched a number of the matches. I think it’s great that there’s a pro league in the country. I always enjoy watching Deja [McClendon] play. She may have a mask on, but you can see the smile in her eyes. I think it’s great. It’s nice to see Nia [Grant] still playing. There are so many players from the Big Ten playing in the league, so I’m familiar with a lot of the players. There are a number of players who are involved with our U.S. national team. I think Jordan Larson looks like she’s in incredible playing shape right now. I think it’s terrific. I enjoy hearing Salima [Rockwell] talking about all the action. It’s enjoyable. I think it’s good for the sport. I’m not glued to my computer to see who the teams are for next week. I don’t really care about that. I enjoy watching great volleyball. If the volleyball’s not great, the volleyball players are, so I enjoy that.”

Jonni Parker on the Athletes Unlimited league:
“I think it’s awesome. It’s amazing to watch and learn from them, because some of the players I might have played against my freshman year. It’s like trying to see how their game has improved and how they’re translating it into the pros. It’s a great learning opportunity for anyone, especially. I think it’s awesome to watch. For it to be the first time in our country, I think it’s awesome. They’re setting that image — a great representation for women’s volleyball. I love it.”

I was just watching the new Athletes Unlimited League play. I found it to be uninteresting, convoluted, and confusing. Has anyone else watched and have an opinion about the concept? I have the same opinion. There's no team to identify with and cheer for. And changing up the teams every week makes every game an exhibition match. The league will fold within two years. If it can't get a volleyball addict like me interested there's not much hope for it.

I've tried watching AUL matches several times. I find them to be unwatchable after about three minutes.

It's really a shame that the league isn't capturing the interest of great fans of the sport like the posters on this forum.
