WI swept the weekly awards, including giving 2 to 1 player. Hey B1G! Didn't you know sharing is caring? -- signed, Holland fan Is it just my imagination, or is there a slight prejudice in the B1G towards PSU. Just curious, I started feeling that way after Carlini was awarded player of the year and setter of the year over Micah, but we certainly showed them in the semis that year. Yes I agree big Holland fan.

Is it just my imagination, or is there a slight prejudice in the B1G towards PSU. Just curious, I started feeling that way after Carlini was awarded player of the year and setter of the year over Micah, but we certainly showed them in the semis that year. Yes I agree big Holland fan. I've given up on expecting the weekly awards to make sense. I think it might have started after PSU won their 4th title in a row. The feeling might be that PSU has had enough winners, time for others to be recognized. BUT, what about the facts? They don't matter. I get the impression that if you have a lot of attempts, that's what matters cuz then you can have a gaudy kills per set stat. I think the kills per set is a pretty useless stat; just like the points per set that the international game uses a lot. Doesn't tell you a lot. Were the points gotten by kills, blocks or aces? Can't tell. A player could have 5 kills a set and hit .100. Not terribly helpful to their team, unless of course, the other team is hitting .050 Oh well. I agree; I think that Allie had better stats and should have gotten the award; a pretty gaudy hitting percent along with a ridiculous number of blocks. Who'd have thunk that she would be hitting as good as she has been this season. We knew she was a really good defensive player, but the offensive side of her play is a wonderful surprise. I must confess, when I heard that Serena had transferred, my heart sank. But it's risen pretty good since then

I stumbled on this interview today. Like many women volleyball players she was articulate, thoughtful and upbeat after what sounds like a hard working recovery from back surgery. She was asked what venue she found most fun to play in other than Devaney-without hesitation she said Penn State. Maybe because we got next, but what she said about the venue and the crowds at Rec is quite true.

WI finally won set 3 28-26. A W is a W, but this showed a lot about both teams IMO

ILL vs PUR. PUR took 1st set 28-26. Illinois' serve is ferocious. They have a lot of good servers. 4 aces in the first set. Nobody ahead by more than 2 pts. Look at the stats and they make no sense. PUR hit .521, 14 kills, 1 err, 4 blocks, 1 ace. ILL hit .231, 18 kills, 9 errors, 0 blocks and 4 aces. Selima in the Volleyballmag Monday talk mentioned how she saw the stats for the ILL vs PUR match last Friday and couldn't believe that the match was so close. Sometimes it just matters when the errors are made. In this set, PUR had a serve err on set point. ILL had an error trying to be too cute on a ball that just needed to be hit over the net.

ILL vs PUR. 3rd set. ILL takes set 25-22. PUR up 3-2. ILL nice coverage on PUR block. 5's. 7's. Then ILL goes on a 3-0 run. Timeout by PUR doesn't help & ILL extends to 14-7 lead. Another timeout PUR. ILL hitting & blocking quite well. PUR responds with a 7-0 run. 14-14. Now a lot of side-outs. Then ILL goes on a 4-0 run to lead 20-16. Lot of runs this set. PUR really hurting themselves with attack errors at end of set. ILL up 24-21. ILL takes set 25-22 & is up 2-1.
STATS HITTING ILL .267 PUR .193 ACES ILL 7 PUR 1 Serve ERRS ILL 10 PUR 8 - 5 this set BLOCKS ILL 7 Pur 7 DIGS ILL 49 PUR 40 - ILL big advantage in 3rd set.

ILL vs PUR 4th set. PUR takes set 25-20. Both teams have won 2 sets. ILL up 3-1. At times, PUR unable to get their attack thru the ILL block. PUR having serve err problems, end of 3rd & beginning of 4th.
ILL another serve err. 2nd this set. 6's. Grace Cleveland has some arm. 8's This set is tight so far. Both teams playing hard with some long rallies. Haven't heard of hardly any of the ILL hitters beside Cooney, but they have some girls that can HIT. 10's
Long rally that PUR wins; some miraculous ups by ILL but ILL eventually wins the pt. 11's. ILL hitting .417 in the set so far. PUR block comes thru; on 5-0 run. PUR up 15-11. ILL timeout. Such a match of runs.
PUR goes 6-0, then ILL scores to break the run, PUR up 16-12. Well, looks like this baby could go 5 like lawst PUR/ILL match. PUR blockers have reall come on. PUR up 19-14. ILL timeout. PUR extends lead to 20-14. ILL gets 2-0 run to crawl within 20-16. PUR up 21-17. Challenge by PUR. 1st challenge of match!!! I must say, the cameras for the challenger REALLY SUCK. Really hard for the ref to make a decision with the lousy cameras. Call reversed. PUR up 22-16.
PUR ace. only 2nd of match for them. PUR up 23-16. ILL gets two kills in row for PUR lead of 23-18. PUR up 24-19, 5 set pts. PUR takes 4th 25-20.
STATS HITTING ILL .232 PUR .225 ACES ILL 7 PUR 2 Serve ERRS ILL 13 PUR 10 BLOCKS ILL 8 Pur 9 DIGS ILL 61 PUR 52

ILL vs PUR 5TH SET!! Brown called multiple times for over the net when backrow. PUR up 3-1. ILL libero just had her 4th serve error. Bad timimg. PUR up 5-2. PUR extends lead to 7-3. ILL timeout. Another case of PUR hitter going back to hit and setter needs help to set the ball and doesn't get it. ILL come back and down 7-5. PUR challenge on prior touch. call confirmed. PUR up 7-5. This is an entertaining match. PUR up 8-7. PUR challenge in/out. Teams catching up on the challenges!!! Call is reversed. PUR up 9-6. PUR up 10-6. Thinks looking bad for the home team ILL timeout. Long rally and a PUR tip goes wide. PUR up 10-7. ILL ace, PUR up 10-8. PUR timeout. PUR takes the next pt to stay up 3, 11-8. ILL not giving up, PUR up 11-9. PUR attack err, PUR up 11-10. ILL error, PUR up 12-10. ILL kill, PUR up 12-11. ILL showing a lot of mental toughness. PUR kill from middle, PUR up 13-11. PUR block and gets match point. PUR up 14-11. ILL challenge net violation. M/B using it as a timeout??? You think?? Call stands. Match point. Double touch on PUR, PUR up 14-12. PUR wins on Hayley Bush dump. 15-12. 3-2. STATSHITTINGILL .206 PUR .221 ACESILL 8 PUR 2 Serve ERRSILL 13 PUR 10 BLOCKSILL 8 Pur 11 DIGSILL 70 PUR 65
