Neither of these teams will be easy for PSU. (Not that I think anyone expected that to be the case ) ILL has really good servers & hitters. I don't think their defense is that great. ILL setter was running around a lot. ILL middles were set a lot, Collins, 25 attempts for .333 hitting; Cooney, 42 attempts for a .167 average; but overall, didn't hit for that good an average. PUR has good serve receive, and some good hitters. Their defense is decent not great. Haley Bush, Purdue's setter, had 6 kills, 2 error on 14 attempts hitting .286. PUR middles had 39 attempts and hit .282. Not bad but not great. I think that both teams are vulnerable to tips and roll shots to the middle. Both teams had trouble scoring at various times. They both gave up some really long runs, which really hurts. I think PSU can beat both teams, but the PSU effect may do PSU in on at least one if not more matches. (PSU Effect = Most teams are sky high when playing PSU; so even if they aren't having a particularly good year, they will play well against PSU). That is why to me, the coming PSU vs NEB match on Friday is a good indicator on how good PSU is, but not the same for NEB. NEB will more than likely have a good match against PSU no matter how their season is going.

Thanks for those! I heard PU was playing without Jael Johnson. I think that hurt them a bit. Trammel did not seem to be the force she was last year when I watched her.

Even with Nebraska's impressive win against PSU I still think Wisconsin is the best team in the B1G and the second best in the country.
Minnesota is hard to figure out losing to Michigan. They are inconsistent, hit or miss in big games. They have the talent but just haven't put it all together on a consistent basis.
Northwestern is a worthy opponent tonight. Match could go either way with PSU's uncertain lineup. PSU really needs to find the best lineup and stick with it. Can't have players looking over their shoulder after every mistake.

OSU v MI underway. Close match. Paige Jones is a really tough server.
The booth is incredible. Credit OSU. The best, most technically revealing commentary from the single guy in the booth, Luke Wood Maloney. Doesn't feel like noise. Also has been talking about ?Londot? showing some kind of weakness in her approaches. And a phrase I never heard before: one team's L is a 'you don't know if you don't go' player who will try for every ball. This guy is superb.
Stats started working in set 2...and now have stopped working again.
The audio of this match should be required listening for all the B1G booth personnel.
OSU won set 1; was off to a bad start in set 2 until Rosen won a challenge and then MI couldn't hit a ball in (size of two helicopter pads, as booth noted). Up 2-0.
Won out easily. Whatever MI had early, they lost the thread.

MSt held on to beat PU in 5...coulda done it in 4 or even maybe 3 if things had gone just a little better. Shondell's lips were read, talking to the ref: You Just Cost Me This Match." Yikes. Wear your mask!!

WISC took out OH tonight 3-1. OH hit .158 & WISC hit .239. Wisc had 19, yes count them, 19 blocks and OH had 6. A big difference there. Pretty sure that big a difference won't happen against PSU, but who knows? Be interestng to see how Starck does against such a good blocking team.
Pretty sure that Dana Rettke will be going against Hord. Both are really good defensive and offensive players. I would give Hord a defensive advantage seeing that she is more athletic and I think, has better recognition than Rettke. Rettke hasn't played as many years as Hord. Rettke probably (I think) has the edge offensively. PSU will really need to be on their game against WISC.

IN hosting RU. Tied at 1-1. Crowd so small even the announcer is trying to explain it (hard to recover from OSU FB drubbing).
But: given how much WVB comes out of this geographic area, surprised they're not getting better support. I've heard Aird has tried.
Edit: RU was way ahead in set 5, got to 13 and crumbled. Aird snuck through somehow. Sad for RU fans.

Nicklin Hames and Lauren Stivrins released another episode of their podcast with teammate Anni Evans. They provided an interesting perspective on what it’s like to play in Rec Hall.

Wisc swept NEB 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23. 1st set started off all Wisc 7-2, with Neb showing some nerves. NEB crept their way back in with over .300 hitting. Wisc has kept everybody they have played under .200. It was tied at 24's and Wisc scored the next point to get set point. On the next point NEB was called for a double touch which gave the set to Wisc. Looked to me (and John Cook ) like a bad call. The ball was touched by both hands at the chest level, BUT, no rotation on the ball whatsoever. Rettke hit negative in the 1st set, tho she did end up with 11 kills in the match. 2nd set was all Wisc. NEB had problems getting points out of their OH's. NEB hitting was .16o's after the 2nd set. The 3rd set was back and forth. NEB went on a 6 pt run to lead 11-7. WISC came back by 1's and 2's to tie the score at 17. NEB went ahead 18-17. Then Wisc went on a 4 pt run that sewed up the match. Both teams sided out till WISC up 24-21. NEB was able to score 2 to make it 24-23, but WISC was able to put the ball away to win the match. The defense on both sides of the ball was fantastic. NEB OH's had trouble terminating. Again, a large part of that was the WISC defense. Both sides tipped a lot, with the advantage going to WISC. Interesting that PSU took WISC to 5 away, and NEB was swept at home. I would say that Anna Smrek was the big difference. She hit 12-1-17, for a hitting percent of .647, where she hit .000 against PSU. There were 9 blocks for WISC and 8 for NEB. Orzol hit .103 on 29 attempts. Wisc hit .229 and NEB hit .148. Big difference. Interesting as WISC hit .222 and PSU hit .185 in their match. Part of the difference between the two matches was the blocking of PSU. PSU had 8 blocks in their first set against WISC. Very interesting and entertaining match. Was very ambivalent, as I wanted both teams to lose.
