OK, we all know, the only poll that matters is the end-of-season NCAA Tournament, which allows teams to show where they belong, rather than leaving it up to coaches who may take the poll-voting process seriously, or may not. Still, polls generate are fun, or at least interesting. So where do we think Penn State lands in this week's AVCA poll?
If you are so inclined, add some analysis about why you voted as you did. We chose #15. Our reason? I have no idea which higher-ranked teams lost, so I don't know if there are opportunities for Penn State to move up. But I think #15 is about right for now. We'll have a much better idea after next weekend's matches vs. Oregon and Stanford.

Just looking at the bottom of my tea cup this morning, and the leaves seem to say that the 4 voting coaches who omitted PSU from their ballots last week will double down, all the while voting high for MN which IIRC has some losses (3), winning only 1 set off of each of 3 Top Ten Teams. Those omissions, the tea leaves say, will leave us in seat 17.
Oh, and NE, which lost 2 sets to Omaha, won't be affected. Those 4 voters...they'll also double down on GT which lost to lower-ranked UCLA in 4 and only beat unranked LBSU.

I think most coaches look at W/L and that is pretty much it. They don't have time to get into the number of sets won and lost for 30 teams. So the voting metric is a pretty blunt instrument. My long way of saying I agree all that matters in the voting will be NE got the W against Omaha.

It's the new math. Winning matches causes you to go down in the poll.

So if we win our matches next weekend we will drop out of the poll entirely?

KY now ranked #8 Oakland #25 Notre Dame which is no longer ranked. Loyola - Lost a set to them. Lipscomb - Lost a set to them. Kansas Wake Forest. I'm really upset, cuz I think Western Kentucky took the #16 rank that PSU should have. I know, I have too much time on my hands.
