What I was noticing is that, starting in set 3, MD serve receive was much less successful. Whether that was a result of better PSU service, or simply MDs receivers finally giving in to the stress is impossible to judge. As always, weak serve receive means a more predictable offense and hence a better chance for the PSU block. I was very impressed by MD's OHs. For the first two sets these relatively short players showed an array of shots that had our block and defenders in a great deal of difficulty. Later in the match, when the MD OH's were getting set farther from the net, they had fewer options and Allie and Cait could set up to eliminate certain angles, putting Jenna in a surer position to dig. All of that said, Jenna was an absolute demon. She just looked faster than everyone else on both sides of the net. She was credited with 7 assists, several of which were earned cleaning up our poor passing. Overall, this was a very gutty and resolute performance by both teams. MD is obviously a much improved group and there were so many outstanding rallies. As the announcer said, was a very fun match to watch. That makes sense. Serve receive gets worse, the hitting gets worse also. I've been very impressed with Jenn's assists. I've remember looking at the stats of various games, (not recent), and noticing how few assists the libero had. Many liberos don't put the ball in a positions where the hitters can get a good attack out of it. I'd noticed that it was unusual for a libero to have even 3 assists. Jenna has had at least a couple of matches where she had 7 assists. That's a bunch for a libero. Jenna has a quite good regular set besides her bump set. She's really improved her skill set a bunch since coming to PSU.

Just finished watching a replay of the match on YouTube as if live (it's easy to not know the result in England!). What a great comeback, although as soon as they started to build a lead in the 3rd, I always felt they'd come back and win it. Aside from the usual reliable performers (Blossom, Hord and Parker), I thought Hampton was superb and Holland continued to show increasing strength and confidence. I was pleased to see Kudryashova step up impressively in Pritchard's absence and show what she can do.
The level of skill and total physical commitment in top level US college volleyball still continues to amaze me. I just can't get enough of it!

I agree that it was great to see others step up. Lots of depth in this group.

All of that said, Jenna was an absolute demon. She just looked faster than everyone else on both sides of the net. She was credited with 7 assists, several of which were earned cleaning up our poor passing. I think in addition to her speed, her anticipation has gotten really good. I've noticed on quite a few tips, she recognizes situations where the opposing hitter is either going to tip or has no choice but to tip. She's one of the main reasons that PSU is defending tips a lot better recently IMHO. I noticed that MINN, in the WISC match, seemed to be really vulnerable to tips, (not unlike PSU in the past). They weren't getting to them hardly at all. Selima said that sometimes, for a tip over the right side blocker, the left front needs to come over and cover the tip. I saw MINN doing that sometimes, but frequently the left front was late getting there and therefore didn't get the tip up.
