The B1G is tough. You can't have a letdown, and win. Penn State, arguably, had letdowns -- certainly, didn't play their best -- in three sets. In best-out-of five, that's tough.

PUR hit really well in the 4th and 5th sets after hitting abysmally in the 2nd & 3rd.
The difference in the 5th was 5 attack errs by PSU to only 1 by PUR. Unfortunately, PSU is still plagued by the inability of their hitters to terminate regularly. Too many attacks are being dug by the opposition. Well, it was a pretty good game. Just wish we could have won. Oh well.

First time this season that I've been able to watch a match live and in full thanks to ESPN having the rights for this one. I'm not as knowledgeable as probably everyone on here but just wanted to say what terrific entertainment that was from two teams of superb athletes. Of course I'm disappointed we lost but there's still a lot of improvement and experience to come for this team and we may just spring a surprise or two at the NCAA tournament, assuming we get there of course.

Many positives in this match. Hord was fantastic. Blossom was very good.
Next weekend even if PSU loses both matches their RPI should stay about the same; might even go up.

I still like what I am seeing in Anjelina Starck. Her play reminds me of Megan Courtney. She passes well, positions well on blocks, and plays an intelligent game. All she needs is a little more power. If that develops over her career, she will be a big asset for the team.

I thought that the carry call against Kaitlyn at 16-16 in the fourth really hurt. I suspect that the Purdue coaching staff had been working the referee throughout the match on similar hits and she finally caved. As observed by the commentators, the call was inconsistent with all the other calls on similar plays.

And then Purdue was very unhappy that a similar play (throw), after that play, wasn't called an illegal touch that was if anything a little worse than the one that was called as illegal before. Refs manage to upset both teams. Plus the players get confused also. |
