I really thought we had this one right up til end of 5'th set. Hord and Hampton were fantastic. Rest of team made mistakes at critical times. If one of our OHs could consistently hit .250 then we would not have to over use Parker. Purdue, like most teams in the BiG had one OH who bettered the ball-scored even when they were out of system. Except for Rollins in the Ohio State match we just don't get that.

Penn State hasn't had consistently terminal hitters: Certainly Jonni Parker has been terminal in many, but not all, matches (very few players -- even Megan Hodge, have been terminal in every match). If you mean OHs, then Pritchard, Rollins, Kudryashova and Starck have all had their moments. Just not consistently. So I agree, compared to the very top teams, PSU's OHs have not been "terminal" on a consistent basis. But, IMHO, the potential is there (I am an optimist).

But it seems to me that PSU has OCCASIONALLY had terminal hitters, but very occasionally; Rollins in the OH match; Jonni, when she hit over .500. But when has PSU ever had more than 1 in a match? Not once, that I can remember. (Not counting the pre-conf matches against not so good teams). By this time I would expect to start to see some improvement. But I haven't seen any. I hope you're right. But I'm beginning to lose hope. Hopefully, we'll find hope soon.

Our OH's are consistently hitting for poor percentages. I believe the result is that Jonni gets set a bit too much, which adversely affects her success too. Many teams use the OPP to take out the trash in transition, but Jonni is not 6'5" and thus can't just hit over a block that is ready and waiting for her in transitions. Hence, lots of tips and really high degree of difficulty sharp angles. Note I think an OH hitting efficiency in the .250 range would make a large difference against the better teams. It seems like most BiG teams have at least one OH who can do that regularly not just occasionally.

I am of the opinion that one of the main reasons Rollins and Pritchard are here was to address the hitting issue which was pretty glaring last season. Rollins showed us what she can do against OSU. Pritchard has been hurt. So perhaps one or both will step forward as the season moves along. I am certainly not trying to criticize anyone, just making an observation about the what would get this team over the hump in close matches against good teams.

It's one thing to have an off night here and there.
It's another thing to have an 'on' night here and there.
