wondering if there are any past or present (unlikely i'd guess) team members contributing to this board? i mean ... why wouldn't they be at least reading this forum?

You'd think current team players wouldn't be reading media reports, but rather focusing only on what their coaches are telling them, so as not to get confused with other people's critique/analysis of team play or players. Outsiders cannot see what the coaches do. Also, I think former PSU players are all involved in their professional and national teams. This forum IMHO is more for fans to stay connected during the days of the week when there are no PSU VB matches.

There may be some former players who look at the site, but I don't know of any that post. I think 8M is correct.

True, you and Nyline may be correct about former players browsing this forum. Of course, now I'll be more self-conscious about what I post; hoping not to embarrass myself.

I can only imagine that if any of the formers gave it a look they'd probably be somewhere between ROFL and rolling their eyes at some of our pronouncements. Like 8M says, this is our outlet in between games. I am sure that the very close bond the formers, coaches, and current players have make this site unnecessary for them.
I have heard in other sports that players are discouraged from using social media period because of how it can mess with your mind -- either puffing you up or causing doubt. If i were a coach i would not recommend that any of the players or parents read this or participate because we do occasionally rant about this or that. Meanwhile, i suspect the coaches see this site as one more effective tool to fuel the fabulous fan base and build our VB IQ along the way.

Wait, are you saying our insight and commentary isn't all that profound? Catching breath. Regaining composure. Gathering self. . . . . OK. What's your point? ☺

I also really appreciate all of the work that you, (and your slacker staff), put in on the Dignittany site. As a Penn State fan, it's one of the first places I go to to see what's gong on.

Thanks. Glad you enjoy the site. I really think the contributions of folks on this forum make it infinitely better. I don't know how former players would view this -- certainly it would give them at least the occasional laugh (from how far off the mark we are). I just hope that all of us try to keep in mind the phrase of Coach Rose, and that we act like fans who "know how to be fans."

I agree there are many very knowledgeable fans on this site. In all honesty, I'm not in the upper tier on that score. Plus, many posters here make points that hadn't occurred to me. So I enjoy and appreciate posters and posts. I think where we probably swerve off the road is when we speculate about who should be playing, and where. We don't see them in practices (or at least I don't) and generally don't have the experience or skill set to evaluate talent. Again, at least I don't.

Many who have played and/or coached certainly can add to our knowledge, growth and enjoyment of PSU volleyball...and volleyball in general. Keeping it all about the joy that volleyball brings us, as well as challenging some of the strategies and performances is healthy. Love the site. Enjoy reading what, sometimes I feel I am the only one thinking, comes from someone else! Keep on postin'!!
