This is fantastic. thanks for the interview and the transcript. I love so many things that Russ had to say, but I really love the shout out to his class and his teaching. |

Fantastic interview. First of all, I have egg on my face for thinking Katie was part of the senior class recruitment. I blame COVID.
My main takeaway is that NIL and transfer portal pushed ahead Rose's retirement and that's not surprising at all. While I bleed Penn State blue and white, I work at UNC and am sure that Roy Williams stepped down from coaching MBB for the same reasons and I suspect Coach K at Duke is also for the same reasons.
A lot of coaches share the feeling that it should be about the school/team, not the individual and I think this age of transfer portal and NIL will be to the detriment of college athletics. But I'm old, so maybe just not adapting to change as well as I should.

I think Ethan did a fantastic job with this interview. Really top notch. And believe me, a lot of work went into that -- preparing the questions, actually doing the interview, and then transcribing. Great job!

Thanks, Ethan. This is a very good interview. I noticed that RR sidestepped your question about when he decided to retire. Based on some of his other answers, I suspect it was not until after PSU season concluded (although he may have been pondering it previously).

Thanks, Ethan, a great interview, and I have to also believe the NILS and portal are a detriment to the sport as well. As far as the NILS, not every player will receive those endorsements, so there will be some jealousy, it's a part of human nature. And as far as the portal, well my position on it is clear, I do not believe you should be able to do it.
