We hit into the block far too often*, and seeing as how it was Williams, Starck, and others doing so, I'm guessing it may implicate the setter and or the passers. *In set 2 IIRC, after a brief run of our own blocks, they started getting the block up against us too often. This is entirely correct. Some of the blocks were out of system swings on slow sets but a few were poor choices by the hitters.

Kash with 11-2-24 hit .375 and Trammell also was good at 8-2-16 hitting .375. I'm hoping the connection btwn setter and hitter will improve soon. From what I could see in the first weekend, too many of Seleisa sets were close to the net and while not unhitable, were very difficult to get a good attack off of them. Was that the same this weekend?

Overall a good weekend. Should stay in the rankings for week 506 in a row! Lots of work still to do but Maddy and Cassie did quite well. Passing was mostly good, and they kept quite a few balls up. Anjelina is showing confidence and even though her hitting percentage was not great, the 6 rotation outside often hits a low number b/c they get all the out of system swings. Service was solid this match. Grimes is really good. We will see how good the service is when we play better opponents.
Setting must improve and get faster. Hitters need to make better choices when they get good sets. Block will be stronger when we have Holland. Hope she is ok.

The rotation with Anjelina, Katie and Seleisa at the net struggled.

Re: Starck. She is playing the role of Courtney; I remember Courtney routinely getting set (or attacking otherwise) upwards of 35 times per match. In just 3 sets, Starck: 52 attempts. So, yes, hitting % is low; but it comes w/being OH1. Getting stuck with 'taking out the garbage'...the low percentage sets that keep our side in the game. And she got 13 Ks. (BTW, 2nd highest on team w/6 digs.) She looks much more dialed in/consistent than last year! May we have more, please?

One difference though is that unlike Courtney, who has stayed thin, Starck has put on muscle and hits harder this year. If Angelina can figure out how to block like Courtney then that would be something.

I would like to know if, as the announcers indicated, PSU was issued a yellow card at 13-12 in the third. If so, to whom was it issued and why?
I suspect that it had something to do with Katie and an assistant jumping to their feet during the point and gesturing. The down ref appeared to say something to himher.
Is there a rule regulating how many coaches may be standing near the court? Did he/she say something? Anyone know?

I was about to ask the same question I did "go to the videotape" and the announcers didn't know who was given the yellow card, or what the reason was. One of them suggested it might have been comparable to a "sideline" violation in football. This is what I could tell after looking at the play in question, which involved a kill by Taylor Trammell that gave PSU a 13-12 lead in the 3rd set. After that kill, the camera zoomed in on Trammell, who held up two fingers, and looked a bit peeved. Maybe she thought a double-touch should have been called on LSU earlier in the rally? It looked like she also said something (though it wasn't picked up on the replay). So, maybe the official thought Taylor was displaying "unsportsmanlike conduct"? It didn't look egregious to me (and it may have had nothing to do with the yellow card) but perhaps it violated rules of Southern Hospitality.

Found this in the Box Score Play-by-Play for the third set: [Coach] Sanction (Penn St.) 14 LSU 12 So it appears the yellow card was on one of the coaches.

The rotation with Anjelina, Katie and Seleisa at the net struggled. That rotation actually broke even on the night at 14-14. 6-8 on Cassie's serves and 8-6 in serve reception. The rotation with Starck, Clark and Weatherington up front actually had a poorer record for the night. They struggled mostly on Maddy's serve where they went 3-8 giving LSU a side out percentage of 73%. They were on a par with the other rotations in serve receive going 8-5 for a side out percentage of 62%. Overall though, there hasn't been much variation so far this year among the six rotations.
