What's sad, is that NONE of the sets was close.

Weatherington -.267 with 6 errors. Starck .000 with 5 errors.
If it's me, Weatherington sits, and Markley or Kudryashova get her swings.
She was not the only problem for sure because almost no one played well, but she was the most glaring tonight. Her height is fine at 6'2", but she has the vertical of a tortoise.

Yep, PSU was beat in every area of the match; hitting serving, blocking, digging. I do think that this shows that this team has a small margin of error. This will continue as long as the PSU hitting is as anemic as it is. Was the setting that bad, or was the MI blocking that good? Hard for me to tell as not concentrating on that. I do know that MI seemed to be really prepared for the PSU block. MI was getting pt in system and out-of-system. I thought that the PSU block/defense was better than that. Or, was PSU just not up for the match?

Kudryashova is not it. Markley will be needed. I was going to comment earlier this week that we are thin at the pins. If only we had Parker 1 more year.

Zoe has a real powerful arm, but it seems to be brute force. Can't have Starck and Zoe bot hitting as badly as they did this match. I'm somewhat surprised that KSC didn't put someone in for Zoe. Zoe couldn't buy a kill.

Well, you can kiss the top 10 in the AVCA poll goodbye. Even tho PSU beat IND, that was also a very ugly match. It probably would have been a loss against a mid level B1G team.

Volleyball is a game of momentum. Sometimes a team gets in a zone and there's nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't make any sweeping conclusions based on one match. Let's see what happens the next match.

Well, we will see how the PSU team reacts to this loss. It will tell us a lot.

Volleyball is a game of momentum. Sometimes a team gets in a zone and there's nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't make any sweeping conclusions based on one match. Let's see what happens the next match. True. BUT, this was two really lousily, (that a word?), played matches in a row. So to me, it's not just based on 1 match but 2 matches. Still, it's not the end of the world, and they hopefully can and will come back from this. P.S. True, MI was playing well, but PSU got spanked in every aspect of the game. I guess that is what bothers me the most, so none of the sets were close. Not infrequently, what a team is beat the first 2 sets, they come back to win the 3rd of at least make it close, (MINN last nite lost set 3 32-30). But that didn't happen either.

I think PSU was a little flat against Indiana, expecting to win without too much effort. That's no excuse for not playing up to potential for a team with a goal of going deep into the NCAA tournament. Without seeing the Michigan match, only watching the score, it seemed like PSU ran into a buzz saw.
I actually think the loss could be a blessing in disguise. It exposes what needs to be improved. PSU was going to lose at some point; probably better to get that humility and learning experience early in the conference schedule.
